Wonderful restaurant with authentic dishes that hit home. The in house ginger iced tea was perfectly refreshing. Started off with the shrimp toast & it was exceptional. Immediately wanted a second plate of it. The grilled cheese does not disappoint. The hainan chicken dish is off the charts & a staple on the menu for good reason.
The star of the show personally for me is the dessert. You can literally order any item on there & be satisfied. The strawberry sorbet is the best sorbet I've ever had. The matcha cake is top of the line. Very flavourful yet not overwhelming. Last but not least the mango pomelo sago is a must have. It's a generous portion & I still wanted more. I could come here just to have dessert & walk away more than happy.
All in all the chefs make it happen here & their passion shows through the dishes they create. I'll be seeing you guys down the road. Yeet!
Could not wait to try this place out. Had also seen reviews on La Presse & The Infatuation sites. The food did not disappoint. I would highly recommend the Hainanese Chicken Rice dish. It was delicious! The Steak Salad from The Specials was also a highlight for me. Also had one too many bowls of the Mango Pomelo Sago. Absolutely loved this dessert. Will be back!
Such a unique space & menu. Went for lunch with a small group, so I was able to try many dishes.
Everything was delicious, but the ones I can't stop thinking about are all the desserts! This was one of the best mango sago desserts I've ever had. The strawberry Qi Lan sorbet was so refreshing & the tea-ramisu was surprisingly light. All the desserts had clean flavours & oddly enough even tasted great together. If you have room after the generously portioned mains, I recommend getting all 3 desserts.
For the appetizer, the grilled cheese & shrimp toast were amazing. My favourite main was the Hainan chicken rice. I could eat the rice alone as a meal & be happy. Such great flavours & quality ingredients.
Excellent service & the owners welcome you like family. Need to come back to try other items!
Found this hidden gem of a Chinese restaurant in Montreal, & I'm so glad we did! The ingredients are very generous, the portions are huge, & everything is incredibly reasonably priced.
The shrimp toast was delicious. The fresh, savory flavor of the shrimp paired perfectly with the crispy, crunchy bread.
The deep-fried braised quail was such an interesting & unique dish. The skin was incredibly crispy, while the meat was savory & full of flavor.
The beef noodle soup was definitely my favorite. They give you a lot of beef - honestly, it felt like there was almost more beef & toppings than noodles! 😂 The broth was rich & deeply flavorful, with a taste that reminded me of Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Highly recommended!
The Hainanese chicken rice was another pleasant surprise. The chicken was incredibly tender & juicy, & the special house-made sauce made every bite so satisfying. It also came with a complimentary soup, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable.
For dessert, we tried the matcha tiramisu. The owner told us that the ladyfingers are soaked in tea, & surprisingly, the tea flavor pairs really well with the matcha. It was fragrant, light, & not overly sweet or heavy at all.
We also ordered the ice cream, which the owner said they make in-house in the Italian gelato style. The strawberry flavor is made with real strawberries, & you can really taste the freshness. Definitely worth trying!
Overall, this is definitely a restaurant I'll be coming back to. Great food, generous portions, unique dishes, & excellent value. A real hidden gem in Montreal!
Truly a gem in the neighborhood! The unique menu feels like a love letter to Asian cuisine, from East to Southeast Asia. There's a great variety of classic dishes, some with creative twists, & some more fusion dishes.
You can tell all dishes are made with care & passion. It was an incredible experience, tasting dishes that were familiar but taken to another level! I appreciate how they take the time to really cook from scratch, like the noodles, pasta & broths. No shortcuts, just tasty authentic food.
The ambiance feels cozy & welcoming, as it's filled with vintage furniture, decor & cute knickknacks.
Service was impeccable. It felt honest & kind, like they were welcoming you to their own home. We were even offered delicious tea & dessert, which we thoroughly enjoyed with gratitude.
Their location might pose challenges, but I wish them great success. Please keep up the high quality & passion! I'm looking forward to coming back to taste more food :)
UPDATE: I also really love the Hainanese chicken. MJ just keep giving bangers!!!! & they serve their Hainanese chicken w a small side of chicken broth which was a lovely bonus. Comes w all the usual fixings (ginger scallion oil mix, chili paste, & a little soy sauce).
The red bean & grass jelly drink - sweeter than I personally like but I'm in the minority.. western side of my family prefer intense sweet. To each their own. I will probably still order it but just ask for ice. (It would be cool if they had optional ice shavings, another classic Asian thing for desserts)
Full house on Sunday. I LOVE to see good places getting treated good by the neighborhood! Also, an unsolicited advice: I think they should remove the condiments counter to allow another spot - for the big table to be used.

I loved it. Definitely going back.
I had the first item on the daily specials menu, Nasi Lemak. Beautiful flavors, GOOD portions, has all the flavours. This is actually authentic Asian cuisine.
While I was there another table there was an Asian family who was finishing, & told the owner that they loved it as well.
There's so many things I want to try. The hainanese chicken for example - & this may be the only place in Montreal to offer it (I don't even think satay brothers have it, a small travesty 😤).
Lovely atmosphere & wonderful foods, I was surprised by the dessert especially Mango sago. Highly recommend💖😋
We stumbled upon this gem in our neighborhood, & it was such a nice discovery. You must share the plates : the cabbage salad, the lamb shoulder & a dessert. The service was so cute!
My experience at Maison Jofei was simply epic. From the moment I walked in, you can feel how much attention has been put into the décor. Everything is vintage well put together, & most importantly extremely clean (which is rare to find in Montreal!). The tables are spotless, not oily at all, & even the floors are sparkling. One detail that really stood out to me was the fresh flowers on each table.
As for the service: top-notch. I truly have nothing negative to say, everything was perfect.
For the food, first they offer a hot orange cinnamon tea as welcome drink. I started with a fig grilled cheese as an appetizer. It was delicious, with a great balance between the smoky cheese & the sweetness of the fig jam. I ordered the Nasi Lemak chicken as a main course & wow… such a rich combination of flavors, textures, & freshness all in one dish. The chicken crispy from the outside & super juicy from the inside, served with rice topped with coconut sauce, boiled egg, cucumber & anchovies.
For dessert, we had the black rice pudding with fresh mango, coconut milk, & lychee, & it was absolutely amazing.
This experience exceeded all my expectations, & I will definitely be coming back!
My third or forth visit, & this time we even brought along two families from Toronto to try it. They all said the standard is top-notch-very thoughtful & absolutely delicious.
On top of that, we got a rare surprise: a once-in-a-lifetime dessert… mango pomelo sago. The taste is even better than that of a famous dessert shop in Hong Kong…😊😊 It brings back the taste of home country. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
