Lovebird is a stylish speakeasy in Old Montreal that captivates visitors with its intimate, sultry atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails. The venue is widely praised for its sophisticated decor, attentive service, and the high-quality live jazz music that creates a memorable vibe for dates or outings with friends. While the experience is frequently described as exceptional, some guests have noted that the pricing for food and additional entertainment fees can be unexpected, suggesting that clearer communication regarding these costs would further enhance the visit. Overall, the combination of creative drinks, professional staff, and beautiful design makes the restaurant a recommended destination for those seeking a polished and elegant night out.
Semi-tucked in an alleyway is Lovebird, a very charming & lively cocktail bar with live music. $20 entry fee. I recommend making a reservation in advance. I noticed the service was pretty slow, we were only seen once to order & then again when it was time to close the bill.

WOW. If you're looking for a place that feels like you've discovered one of the city's best kept secrets, LOVEBIRD is it.
From the moment you walk in, you're transported into a cozy speakeasy with an incredible atmosphere, amazing live jazz, & the kind of ambiance that makes you want to stay all night. My apologies to the talented musicians whose names I didn't catch, but you made our evening unforgettable. Every song was perfection.
The signature cocktails were unlike anything we've had before. Each one came with its own story, making every drink feel like part of the experience. Creative, beautiful, & absolutely delicious.
& the food… wow! The truffle grilled cheese was rich & decadent, the lobster rolls were packed with flavor, & the fries were honestly some of the best we've ever had.
A very special thank you to Zoée, who took such great care of us. Every recommendation was spot on & made our evening even more memorable. Thank you as well to the incredibly talented bartenders for crafting such exceptional cocktails & to the warm, welcoming hosts who made us feel at home from the second we arrived.
LOVEBIRD isn't just a place to grab a drink. It's an experience. Whether it's date night, a celebration, or simply an evening out with friends, this is one of those rare places you'll be telling everyone about long after you leave.
We ended up here after finishing up an early dinner elsewhere & wanting to stay out a bit later. I recommend making a reservation, it made things very smooth. Wonderful ambiance, cocktails, & service. The interior design was stunning. The jazz quartet was exceptional & such a bonus. They even brought my wife complimentary churos with a sparkler for her birthday, unprompted. Highly recommend.
It is nice in there, & the cocktails are good - but the $20/25 per person'performance charge' is too much, especially when the drinks aren't cheap… if it was per table, I might pay it - but otherwise, I don't think I'd return.
I visited Lovebird while in Montreal as part of a larger group. The reservation process was straightforward, & they had no trouble accommodating us, which was great.
The biggest issue was an unexpected $25 per person entertainment fee that we only learned about after arriving. The hostess mentioned it quickly & briefly to the people who arrived early, & not at all to those who were later to arrive. Because not everyone in our group had arrived yet, & we'd already committed to the venue, changing plans wasn't really realistic.
What made the charge harder to justify was that our table was blocked by a half wall, so we couldn't actually see the quartet performing. We could hear the music, but from where we were sitting it didn't feel like we were receiving a premium live entertainment experience. Had we known about the fee beforehand, we could have decided whether that was something we wanted to pay for.
That said, Lovebird has a beautiful atmosphere. The space is stunning, the speakeasy concept is cute, & the cocktails were some of the best I've had in Montreal. Every drink we ordered was excellent (I had the Premier Regard (sweet, refreshing), & the Way Back(fruity, spicy)).
Overall, I had a great night & can see why people love this place. My only criticism is that any mandatory entertainment charge should be communicated clearly during the booking process rather than after guests arrive. If we had known about the extra charge we would've gone elsewhere. Personally, I didn't find the additional charge worth it & I wouldn't return to lovebird another time given the entertainment charge.
I recently visited Lovebird in Old Montreal & was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is elegant, intimate, & incredibly inviting, making it the perfect spot for a date night or a relaxed evening with friends. The cocktails were creative, beautifully presented, & expertly crafted, while the live music added a sophisticated touch without overwhelming conversation.
What really stood out was the attention to detail, from the stylish décor & cozy ambiance to the attentive & friendly service. Every aspect of the experience felt thoughtful & refined. If you're looking for a unique cocktail bar in Montreal that combines great drinks, live music, & a memorable atmosphere, Lovebird is absolutely worth a visit. I can't wait to return.
Waitress Brenda made our night, her service was exceptionally warm & attentive. Both the cocktails & live music were great, & we will definitely be back. Cheers to the rest of the team as well who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
