Review Summary

L'Oeufrier offers a vibrant and popular dining experience known for its extensive menu, generous portion sizes, and creative breakfast options. Many patrons appreciate the welcoming, family-style atmosphere and the sense of community fostered by the staff, while the diverse selection caters well to various tastes. However, experiences can vary significantly; while many diners praise the efficient and friendly service, others have encountered issues with long wait times, tight seating arrangements that lead to a noisy environment, and occasional lapses in food quality or service attentiveness. Despite mixed feedback regarding consistency across visits, the restaurant remains a frequent destination for those seeking a hearty brunch in a lively setting.

Wow! I am amazed by my experience here! The coffee was delicious (& bottomless), the food was incredible & the service was so friendly & fast! There aren't a lot of places in Montreal that are consistently good yet this place never disappoints. 100 percent recommend checking out this spot at least once !

Confused by the positive reviews for this place. It was the worst food & service I've ever received at a breakfast place. Took 15 minutes for the server to come take my order when the place did not appear to be that busy. I ordered a breakfast poutine & a coffee. The potatoes were way under cooked which was an impressive feat because they were thinly sliced so they should cook very quickly. I ordered my eggs scrambled & they came in the form of an omlette instead. One of the listed ingredients of the poutine came in a prepackaged container on the side of the plate. I could only stomach a few bites. Probably the only time I've ever left food on my plate at a restaurant because I can usually eat anything & everything. Despite advertising the coffee as unlimited, I couldn't get a server to fill my cup despite numerous attempts to get their attention. After about 10 minutes of attempts I then resorted to raising my empty cup into the air to try to get any servers attention to no avail. Interestingly after I gave up on the coffee & made the sign to get the cheque once, my server was at my table instantly with the machine to take my payment. Of course there was no final offer from the server to fill my empty coffee cup. The server did not ask me how the food was or question why I was leaving the entire plate practically untouched.

We visited over Easter weekend, when many places were closed, so we were happy to come across this spot.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, which made for a pleasant first impression. However, the space felt quite tight, with what seemed like more tables than the layout comfortably allows. This appeared to make it challenging for servers to move between tables, particularly when clearing plates, delivering coffee, & processing payments.

We also noticed that our food arrived before the coffee we had ordered upon being seated, which somewhat diminished the value of the'bottomless' coffee offering.

In terms of the food, the waffles & sausages were very good, & the smoothie was enjoyable. The potatoes, however, could have benefited from additional seasoning.

Overall, it's a reasonable option when choices are limited, but the atmosphere wasn't particularly conducive to a relaxed breakfast experience. We likely wouldn't rush back on a future visit to Montreal.

Overall Impression:

A rare example of a franchise that still feels like a neighbourhood staple…consistent, welcoming, & rooted in community.

What I liked:

I'll start by saying this, I'm a bit of a breakfast connoisseur. I've been at this for decades.

My wife & I first discovered L'OEufrier about five years ago when we moved to Montreal, at their Plateau Mont-Royal location. It was one of the first Quebec-based franchises I really got to know (St-Hubert being the obvious first introduction for most of us).

I'll be honest… the loud, colourful, family-style vibe isn't typically my thing. But there was something different here.

Yes, the food & coffee were consistently good, with generous portions & a menu that doesn't hold back. But what stood out more was something you don't often find in franchised restaurants, a genuine sense of community.

Staff were friendly, engaged, & clearly knew their regulars. Before long, they knew us too. Being new to the city at the time, that mattered. It made a difference.

Despite being predominantly francophone, I've always felt welcomed. They've met me where I'm at with my (very much still improving) French, though I'll say, I've mastered ordering my usual. Slowly but surely.

The Village location:

After moving from the Plateau to the Village, we naturally found our way to this location.

It's smaller, a bit tighter, but somehow even more connected.

Being in the heart of the Village, there's an added layer of inclusivity & openness. That sense of community is amplified here. It's not just staff, it's the guests too.

This morning, a table of guys started to chat with us, joking, laughing, completely natural. That's not unusual here. It happens often.

Atmosphere & vibe:

Tables are close together, & during peak hours you might wait, but that proximity is part of what makes it work.

If anything, spreading people out would take away from the experience.

It's lively, a bit chaotic at times, but in a way that feels human, not transactional.

Food & menu:

The menu is extensive, bordering on excessive, in a good way.

Some of the breakfast poutines look like they could feed a small country. Milkshakes are everywhere. Mimosas kicking off people's Sundays. . It's indulgent without pretending to be anything else.

My wife & I both had'Le Simplest'…. my go-to. I'm a simple guy :)

& that's part of the appeal, whether you want something over-the-top or just a solid, classic breakfast, it delivers consistently.

Who this is good for:

People looking for:
• consistent, reliable meals
• generous portions at fair prices
• a place that feels lived-in & welcoming

& maybe most importantly:
• a sense of belonging, even if you're new

Closing:

At the end of the day, L'OEufrier is a large Quebec chain, but it doesn't feel like one.

There's something honest here. Something that feels distinctly Quebec, where a place can grow, expand, & still hold onto the community it was built on.

That's not easy to maintain.

They've managed to do it.

Service was absolutely terrible. 7 people, took 25 mins before anybody even talked to us (after asking another server). We ordered, took over 20 minutes to receive coffees, 2 of which were forgotten. Food came shortly after, with my eggs not as requested. Service was very poor & unapologetic. Food was somewhat bland.

The quality of the food here was straight up bad. The ingredients honestly tasted like dépanneur quality. The potato fries were stale & not even hot, the honeydew was soft, & the watermelon was grainy. It really feels like they cheap out on ingredients. The omelette was not flavourful whatsoever. The iced coffee was fine, but nothing special, & definitely not worth the $7 price tag. We like the eggs benny but I think it needs better presentation. The only saving grace was the ambiance & atmosphere, which are actually quite nice. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the disappointing food.

Super pleasant service. Wonderful early bird special. I ordered the bacon cheese omelette, it was a huge portion & was super delicious. It came with nice bread & hot coffee as well. Highly recommended spot!

Great way to start your morning, a welcoming local breakfast spot with friendly service & great food. Spent a great Monday morning trying a couple different poutines, having hot coffee, & ended with an oreo milkshake with waffle on top.
