Review Summary

L'Escogriffe Bar is widely regarded as a staple of the local underground scene, celebrated for its authentic rock atmosphere, live music performances, and friendly staff. Visitors frequently highlight the spacious venue, the welcoming terrace, and reasonable drink prices, making it a popular destination for an indie crowd looking to enjoy a night out. While the sound quality and overall vibe generally earn high praise, some patrons note that the venue can become warm and crowded, and occasional issues with background noise during acoustic sets have been reported. Despite these minor inconsistencies, the bar remains a go-to spot for those seeking a vibrant dance floor, diverse musical acts, and an unpretentious, gritty charm.

A gem of a place for your outings on the weekends! The music is golden (70's-80's & 90's) & makes you wanna boogie woogie!

Great Lake Swimmers concert on Friday, April 17:

Great show (5 stars)! Sound was excellent given the low ceilings & stone walls.

Venue (2 stars): The opening duo & GLS were folky, with many quieter, acoustic songs. The BARTENDER spent much of these songs SPEAKING & LAUGHING with his buddy so LOUDLY that he drowned out the music. Zero respect (or self awareness?). We could see the artists looking at him with disbelief & annoyance during their performances. A real vibe-killer. Self-serve water station at the bar was really appreciated though. Venue was hot & poorly ventilated.

Incredible disco music, a lovely vibe & great value drinks. From 1.30am/2am-close on weekends the dance floor is rammed. If visiting montreal & you want a late night boogie, this is a must visit.

Went there for the first time yesterday, friday night, the place was cramped. The bouncers were nice, but there weren't any coat checks or hangers so we had to hide them in the booths, which I don't recommend but lots of people do. Good music, the drinks are pretty cheap & the bartenders are sympathetic. Lotsssss of weirdos though, if you're 2-3 girls you'll def need to defend yourself at some point. Would still go back there, it's a nice place.

I was expecting to come to a latin club as the description indicates, so was completely surprised to find there was nothing latin about it when we arrived. I wasn't dead set on a latin experience so I didn't mind, but I just found it surprising & humourous that it was pitched as a latin spot. This was a full out college bar, average age range was 18-23. Corresponding to this - the drinks are cheap. Although it is a very limited bar. The bartenders are great though. This place gets really crowded later into the night. Music is primarily club anthems anywhere from the late 90's to current, but leaning towards songs that are 5-15 years old. No cover & the doormen don't give you attitude so they get points for being easygoing as well.
