Location: Place Ville Marie, Rue Cathcart, 9pm, Tuesday, Aug 27th, 2024. As a classically trained culinary gastronome, I rarely take the time to provide reviews unless the experience is either exceptional or terrible. THIS WAS EXCEPTIONAL!!! 1st time back to Montreal in decades. Had a long day @ an international medical Symposium in The Bonaventure Hotel. The concierge & front desk both recommended the eatery that was close & had decent cuisine. I arrived after 9pm but they're thankfully still serving. I was alone & as usual, parked myself @ the bar to get up close & personal with the staff & had a view of the open kitchen. JC quickly attended to me, l asked by chance if they served the 1792 Full Proof Bourbon (Double Gold Winner in 2 of the 2024 World Spirit Competitions: in San Francisco & Singapore), which disappointingly, they did not. I ordered a glass of water instead, which l commented was very good....compliments to the Montreal community water system. I wanted FISH & CHIPS, but they were "86" (out) of it by then. JC unhesitingly recommended the EUROPEAN SEA BASS. I reluctantly took his advice. Fresh seafood is rarely properly done in a high volume commercial establishment & l expected an average @ best product. But, l was hungry & I didn't quibble with JC. Refreshingly, it came quickly & l could immediately see that it had been expertly prepared: The skin of the Sea Bass was seared to just the right crispiness. The flesh was perfectly done, neither over or under cooked, an often difficult skill. It had a good flavor & texture. Likely the best piece of Sea Bass l've ever tasted. The green beans were sautéed just right (tender yet still firm....al denté). The accompaning fennel was also done well & flavorful (Would love to have frond strands included). Not to forget, the remoulade was also distinctive, rich in umame texture (anchovy added depth of character) with a slight spicy bite to add to the ying-yang balance of the Sea Bass. I wished l had a slice of french bread to sop it all up. My promise to JC to return the next night unfortunately, went unfulfilled. As was my desire to acquire their distinctive black t-shirts with their restaurant moniker. My final note is to the well run operation. All of the employees, JC, most of all, were exemplary in their cordial, courteous & efficient, knowledgeable attention to patrons & service details. I watched the choreographed teamwork & if their fastidious attention to the work of cleaning their glassware is any indication, they exemplified proud dedication to their duties. 1$ oysters we had came straight from the sewer. Tasted like feces, unfortunately, as a big oyster connoisseur. They changed locations from the rooftop to the basement, so keep that in mind. Go to Lucilles next time for oysters.View more

Pas terrible les enfants terribles. Menu pour enfants la portion est minuscule. Les gnocchi à l'agneau, étaient pâteux & le tout manquait de fraîcheur. La menthe était séche & des pois congelé dans une assiette a 33$. Entrée fade & poissons pas assaisonner. Fish & chip trop de panure & elle est molle. Bref on y retournera pas.View more

Sachant qu'on est arrivé proche de la fermeture, j'ai trouvé les serveuses ultra gentilles avec nous. Bons petits cocktails fancy. On a juste mangé des rondelles d'oignon mais c'était très bon. À l'intérieur c'est super beau, même leurs toilettes sont à couper le souffle.View more

Salmon tartare is fresh & delicious. I would not recommend beef tartare. Disappointed. For the atmosphere we were on the terrasse & all would have been perfect if it was not of a nearby table of 4 young men of maybe 27 years old behaving like ado 14 years old & disturbing everyone around. I'm sure that in a bar the Bouncer would have come & either calm them or expulsé them but that place is a nice restaurant, & has no such bouncer... sadly!View more

Nous avions réservé pour 17h15 pour 4 personnes. Nous sommes finalement arrivés vers 16h30 vu que nous étions à proximité. Nous avions demandé une banquette & on nous avait dit que c'était impossible puisque c'était pour un groupe. Le resto était pratiquement vide. On nous avait trouvé une table au fond du restaurant. On nous demande si l'on veut de l'eau plate comme s'il avait un autre choix. Nous demandons s'ils ont de l'eau pétillante (Etant donne que certains restos offrent le choix des 2) & notre serveuse nous indique que "oui". Par contre ce que nous ne savions pas c'est que l'eau pétillante était chargée. Au moment de commander (samedi pour le souper) les 2 plats que nous voulions n'étaient plus disponibles (poitrine de poulet & arancini aux champignons). 3e déception. Au moins nous étions en famille & avons tout de même pu profiter du moment.View more
Booked for a brunch from 12 - 1 for 3 individuals for a birthday. We were a little late to arrive, at about 12:07. On arrival, the waitress said she had a great table for us but it had to be cleaned. The terrace was about half full but we wanted to be sat indoors. We had to wait 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned up, although half the restaurant was empty. Once we were seated, our waiter asked us if we wanted still or sparkling water (we opted for still) but once he left, he didn't return; another waiter (I assume the Maître d'Hote or floor manager) served us water & apologized for the wait, which was appreciated! When our original waiter returned, he took our drink & food orders. After leaving our table, it took quite another while before we had our drinks... When we got our cocktails, it was already about 12:40, & our food got to us at about 12:58pm. Seeing as I was on a lunch break, I asked the waiter to pay my bill so I could eat & leave as quickly as possible, & even paying took another 8 - 10 minutes before he returned with the mobile cash. All in all, the food was excellent & the location's really beautiful, wide & luminous but the service was pretty exceptionally slow. It didn't seem to be a staffing issue & the restaurant wasn't so overwhelmed... Regardless, I'll most likely be back but on a day where I have time to spare!View more
