Le Toasteur Villeray specializes in high-volume griddle preparations and classic morning comfort staples centered around artisanal breads. Patrons encounter a robust menu featuring various sweet and savory crêpes alongside thick-cut French toast layered with fresh fruit compotes. The kitchen focuses on precision griddling techniques to ensure consistent texture across all egg-based offerings and golden-brown pancake stacks. Each plate arrives garnished with house-prepared syrups or seasonal berries to balance the richness of the dairy-heavy components. The interior layout prioritizes functional seating arrangements that facilitate rapid turnover during peak capacity periods. Durable tabletops and communal counter spaces support a utilitarian dining flow suited for individuals or groups seeking hearty, uncomplicated portions. This establishment maintains a focused culinary output dedicated to traditional flour-based recipes and reliable beverage pairings.
Le Toasteur Villeray is widely regarded as a premier destination for brunch in Montreal, celebrated for its cozy atmosphere, creative seasonal menus, and high-quality, flavorful ingredients. Diners frequently praise the diverse selection of dishes, which include thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options, as well as generous portions that offer good value. While the staff is consistently described as friendly, welcoming, and professional, many patrons note that the restaurant's popularity leads to significant wait times for both seating and food service. Although the overall experience is highly recommended for its unique charm and excellent culinary execution, guests suggest arriving early to avoid the crowds, as the bustling nature of the establishment can sometimes impact the speed of service.
Dropped by Toasteur Villeray for a midweek brunch around noon, & despite it being a weekday, there was still a lineup - a good sign that this spot is popular! Seating is quite limited, & since they don't take reservations, I'd recommend going earlier if you want to avoid the wait.
I ordered the'Brouillarde à la Marocaine' & asked to swap the goat cheese for halloumi (not a fan of goat cheese) - the staff was super accommodating with that, which I appreciated. The dish came with a fresh green salad topped with a few chunks of watermelon (a refreshing touch), & some nicely baked potatoes on the side. Overall, it was flavorful & satisfying.
The cozy vibe & solid food make this a brunch spot I'd definitely return to. Worth the wait if you have the time!

I live in the area & this is the best brunch food in the borough. Unfortunately the service is incredibly slow. Almost always an hour wait to get a table, despite their recent renos adding a second floor of seating, & then when you do get a table, it takes forever to have your order taken, drinks & food to arrive (sometimes an hour for the food to come), & for the bill to be paid. It's sad because this place truly has a great atmosphere with a great rotating menu (always with allergen-friendly options) but it seems like they are always understaffed. The staff always seem rushed & behind on everything, & I wonder if there's only 1 person working in the kitchen (my guess).
I really feel for the staff who work here, & each of them are lovely people truly, but unfortunately the slow service makes it really undesirable to eat here, unless I arrive like as soon as they open, which is not brunch hours.
I also wonder if they hired more people in the kitchen or the food came out faster, if the wait time overall would be quicker.
Hope one day the business invests in hiring more staff.
I ordered poutine déjeuner & matcha pancake they were delicious & tasty. the pancake tasted a bit bitter but overall I liked it & would recommend this place.
I'm not a Quebecian, but I visit Montreal regularly & this is the one place I always come back to! This brunch spot is just amazing, unlike anywhere I've ever been! Their hospitality is out of this world, their drinks are the most refreshing & their food is the tastiest with also a lot of vegan/vegetarian options 😋
I can recommend Quebecian or tourist to come here & have some brunch & enjoy the real taste of Montreal!!
