Review Summary

Le Sacristain offers a unique and charming dining experience set within a converted chapel in Trois-Rivières, where guests frequently praise the high quality of the savory buckwheat galettes and homemade soups. The atmosphere is consistently described as warm, welcoming, and authentically local, with many visitors highlighting the attentive and friendly service provided by the staff. While most feedback is overwhelmingly positive regarding the fresh, affordable meals and the delightful ambiance, there are occasional mentions of inconsistent texture in the crepes and minor service delays. Overall, it is widely regarded as an excellent spot for a cozy and memorable meal.

Nothing wrong with a limited menu-but when you only have a handful of dishes, I feel like at least one of them should have met a salt shaker at some point in its life.

Everything looks appetizing when it arrives, which honestly makes what happens next even more confusing. The food is so bland it becomes almost impressive. I started questioning whether I had temporarily lost my sense of taste.

The same sad, unseasoned salad mix appeared both inside the crêpe & beside it, apparently working a double shift. No sauce, no salt, no pepper. The chicken was dry enough to qualify as emergency kindling. The croutons in the onion soup fought back. & the lemonade was so aggressively sour I'm pretty sure it removed a microscopic layer of enamel from my teeth.

Then came the Crêpe Nordique, supposedly with smoked salmon. I'm still waiting to meet the salmon. What arrived looked like a piece of cardboard that had been folded around some salad & introduced to a mysterious pink substance. Maybe the salmon had been shown to the sauce from across the kitchen? I genuinely don't know. The crêpe looked like cardboard &, unfortunately, had the flavour profile to match.

Service was equally underwhelming. Nobody was particularly welcoming. We were seated in a corner & then seemingly entered a witness-protection program, because we were mostly left there & forgotten.

The frustrating part is that the location & building are genuinely beautiful. There's so much potential here, which makes the food & experience even more disappointing.

My recommendation: keep walking for a few more steps & go to Le Manoir du Spaghetti instead.

Your taste buds-& possibly your tooth enamel-will thank you.

Dans une ancienne chapelle à deux pas du vieux Trois-Rivières, une crêperie sans artifices, crêpe de sarazin de poulet, pommes & sirop d'érable avec salade. Service attentionné, bon qualité/prix. Je recommande.
