Review Summary

Le Roy Jucep is described as a retro, welcoming diner renowned for poutine and a broad breakfast and lunch menu, with generous portions and well-made fries. The poutine earns high marks for the authentic cheese curds and savory sauce, though several tasters note the gravy can be sweeter than expected and vary by visit. The orange juice and some beverages are frequently praised, while the overall menu is seen as offering a solid traditional Quebec experience with a mix of classics and creative variants such as Cajun or smoked-meat poutines. Service is often described as fast, friendly, and attentive in busy rooms, but some experiences mention slow or uneven service, misorders, or staff shortages during peak times. The ambiance is repeatedly described as charming and nostalgic, with a vintage decor that enhances the dining experience. Some reviews reference changes in ownership or renovations and suggest a dip in quality, while others regard Le Roy Jucep as a must-visit and a tourism staple for tasting a historic dish. In short, Le Roy Jucep delivers a distinctive, generous, classic poutine experience that draws locals and travelers alike, with strong praise for the food and atmosphere and mixed notes on consistency and value.

It used to be a great place for poutine but it's not anymore. The fries are less than ordinary, no crunch at all, the cheese is somewhat fresh but doesn't really'squeak' are the sweet gravy is certainly not'original'. On the other hand, the burger I had was really well done & tasty.

You can't come to drummondville & not try the birthplace of poutine. They have a little plaque in the front of the restaurant that even says so (if you believe in that kind of stuff). Inventor of the poutine or not, I thought it was a fun place! Lots of seating, friendly staff, & a stacked menu. I got the regular poutine with the authentic sauce (it tastes a bit sweeter than the normal gravy) & I thought it was good! The cheese was very fresh. It's quirky that they put the cheese at the bottom.

A worthwhile tourist stop.

Stopped for the poutine. It was worth the stop. I would say personally I like a more spicy peppery gravy as this was a bit more of a sweet taste (I thought).

We only tried the original poutine & it was good. Not a fan of sweet gravy, but you can get used to it. It's a local tradition & you have to try it once. Also had an orange juice that's is blended to give it a frothy taste to it. Has a Tang-y taste & reminds me of my childhood.

Similar to other reviews, we were excited about eating at the place that supposedly created poutine, only to get a very sweet gravy that was pretty mediocre. Too much ketchup in it. The place looks great, the club sandwich & guedille as well, but disappointing classic poutine.

Enormous selection of poutine, had Cajun & the French one (pepper sauce). They were delicious. A lot of people mention that the sauce is sweet but it might be because they just took the "authentic" sauce which is sweet, you have to ask for the brown sauce which is the actual original one. Anyway, the poutine is up there with the best of them.

We tried their Poutine after hearing that this was the original restaurant that invented it. The sauce/gravy is sweet & the curd doesn't squeak like curd normally does. The curd does however have a nice flavour. I'm pretty sure the fries are frozen in a bag & not fresh cut. We ordered the large vegetarian & the portion size was ok for two. The waitress was friendly. Overall, I'd say that they're riding on the inventor story. We've had better Poutine at several other restaurants elsewhere.

Great poutine but there are better ones out there (the gravy was a touch too sweet). Lovely service & very vibrant & colourful decor.

The food was good but not more. The traditional poutine sauce is a bit sweet. it depends if you like that. The hot dog was a massive letdown. The atmosphere was great. & we got to meet the lady who invented poutine.
