Paris may be an ocean away, but the art of casual French bistro dining is not lost at Le Pois Penché in the heart of downtown Montréal.
The menu reads like a who’s-who of Parisian comfort food favourites, with beloved classics the likes of steak tartare and duck confit in mustard sauce alongside an array of spectacular seafood platters. Boasting one of the most interesting wine collections in the city, Le Pois Penché offers an impressive selection of imported bottles and wines by the glass.
This authentic French brasserie delivers fine cuisine in simple opulence: plush red velvet, checkerboard floor tile, crystal chandeliers, large paintings and a blackboard listing the daily specials on the wall. In the middle, a large bar; around it, busy waiters flitting to and from, outfitted in the traditional white shirt, black vest and apron. French bistro, through and through.
Le Pois Penché’s terrasse buzzes with animated conversation while its private banquet rooms reserve their splendour for group functions. Le Cellier, in particular, offers a sumptuous venue for events up to 70 guests, with vibrant Parisian settings by artist Pierre Pivet, a vaulted brick ceiling, and the restaurant’s prized wine cellars displayed behind sleek glass panels. Connected to the brasserie, Salon Chez Swann, in the boutique hotel of the same name, is ideal for groups of 24 guests or less.

Tasty & satisfying dinner, furthermore the ambiance was delightful & the voice of the singer is amazing, as u listen to a soundtrack!
The whole staff are so professional & kind.
We had great night.View more
As we arrived in Montreal, some places didn't allow us to get a seat with the child because they got a business or alcohol permit as a bar but actually run as a restaurant.
This place welcomed us even though we didn't have a formal dress.
Raw bar looked amazing. Live music was fantastic. People sang shangsongs all together. Ordered chef's day special grilled fish, the manager came with a cart that has grilled fish on, then got us all the meats from the bones.
This place was the best place I ever visited in Montreal rather than tourist hot spots.
Made us so happy from the long drive.View more
Everything about this place was excellent. The hostess was very polite & accommodating given we had two little children & a large stroller & gave us a perfect table. Our waiter was funny & friendly. The manager, Omar, was exceptionally welcoming & helpful. Most importantly the food was excellent & it is a really cool little bistro that we felt as if we were in downtown Paris. Highly recommended!View more
Food is fine, prices are OK.
Our server Marwa was great! Friendly & attentive.View more
It was busy, so we sat on the bar (Friday dinner) - definitely recommend you to make a reservation! Duck confitt was amazing! Skin was crispy even when it was soaked with the sauce. Onion soup was great too! I've had some super salty onion soups before, but this one was more like sweeter side. So far the most satisfying restaunrant in Montreal!View more
My Wife & I Had a good experience, we came in for a brunch tasting courtesy of a Friend.
Food was good, everything came out quick, no complaints.
The Owner & Servers kept hovering around us to make sure everything was ok, while the people around us weren't getting the same treatment.
Overall, it was good.View more

The location is great. Food was good but overpriced considering the quantity, especially for the brunch menu.
I also must say this is the worst client experience I have ever had in a French Restaurant in Montreal & while living in Lyon & Paris.
It was supposed to be a nice business meeting. We had a reservation for 8 people. As soon as we got into the restaurant, we asked the hostess if we can sit on the terrace (which was not full at that time) instead of staying inside, she abruptly replied: ' we already have a table ready for you inside, just follow me', & I asked the same question again, the answer was quite the same with a bit of attitude: ' this table is the one which is ready for you, it is better ... It is supposed to rain today.' Hmm… What?! At that time, the restaurant was not full at all, she could have tried to arrange a new table for us according to our preference. But Anyway…
Our table was located just right before the kitchen. It was noisy. Throughout the lunch, the waitress was very condescending to some of the guests (who were actually our client) & it was very unpleasant.
I would not recommend this restaurant because of the bad service, most of the staff members are arrogant & also have a double standard regarding customer service, clients should be treated equally. Our experience at “Le Pois Penché” was one of the worst. As a French restaurant in Montreal, we have known better. We will not go to that place again.
Troisième visite pour nous au Pois Penché. Nous avons été très déçu... Soupe tiède/froide, viande trop cuite, service froid & détaché.... De plus, mauvais rapport qualité/prix.
