What reviews say

Le Passé Composé is widely celebrated as an exceptional brunch destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated and creative menu that frequently highlights high-quality ingredients like duck, foie gras, and bone marrow. Guests often describe the dishes as visually stunning, flavourful, and generously portioned, making for a memorable dining experience. The restaurant is consistently praised for its elegant, rustic-modern decor and its charming atmosphere, particularly on the outdoor terrace. While many patrons enjoy attentive and friendly service, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in staff pacing or communication during busier periods. Despite varying opinions on pricing and table spacing, many diners consider it a must-visit spot and express a strong desire to return for future meals.

A few things, first in the menu the grille cheese comes with soup & you charge for the sound but we where told that in summer there is no soup, then don't charge for the soup, or have a supplement for summer & specify it on the menu because there is nothing about it but you still charge the soup in the plate.

I order a pulled pork plate the pork was dry a lot of things & flavours in the plate but when you eat it the meat was dry & you couldn't differentiate any on the flavours in the plate.

The mocaccino was so diluted you could not taste the coffe or the chocolate on it, it was so much milk that you could not taste any of it at all.

On the water there was fly

All of this for 114 dollars.

* La nourriture a pris 1 h 30 à arriver &, lorsqu'elle est enfin arrivée, elle était froide.
* Le service était extrêmement lent & le personnel semblait complètement désorganisé, ne sachant pas à quelle table apportez les plats.
* À un moment, de la mayonnaise a littéralement atterri au visage d'une amie à notre table.
* Le pire a été la réaction de la gérante. Lorsque nous avons exprimé nos préoccupations, elle nous a répondu qu'elle s'en foutait des plaintes puisque c'était sa dernière journée.

Entre les délais excessifs, la qualité de la nourriture, le manque de professionnalisme du service & l'attitude de la direction, cette expérience a été inacceptable. Je ne recommande pas cet établissement.

Been here twice & it's been a solid 10/10 both times. The presentation, food, & service are all immaculate. Every dish offers a new taste to explore. We tried the Foie Gras, Rustic & the French Toast & I'll definitely be back to try more!

I read a review about their poor/slow service right before I go there & I can tell you that is 100% right. There were 12 occupied tables & only 2 waiters which were doing everything. (greeting customers & showing them their tables, bringing water, taking orders, delivering foods, checking on customers, getting the bill from the machine at the bar, cleaning tables after each group) these all mean that honestly those 2 girls were doing their best & the problem is lack of man power. we received our food after a reasonable wait but our Latte came after we completely finished our plates (you can see in the photos). food tastes good but is way overpriced.

Stumbled upon this Brunch spot in MTL. This Crispy Ocean Burger is mind-blowing good, it's got a MASSIVE piece of Fried Cod, Trout Roe, Yogurt, Dill-infused Slaw, served between a soft Brioche Bun with side Fries or Potatoes! Trout Roe wasn't really coming through flavour wise, but it was a satisfying Burger overall👏🏻

Overall, fun place to have brunch with friends.

Nice atmosphere. The decor is interesting to look at. The space is a little tight (seated at a table of 4 quite close to other tables).

Food (picky eater)
The water is potable but the glass smelled funky (fyi no fruits).
The Contre-Filet de Boeuf Rôtis was unimpressive. I liked the rösti, the vegetables, & the pickled pearl onions. The rosbif was grey but tender which allowed the spotlight to be the duck egg but it's the usual egg trade-off of completely runny yolk = some slimy whites.
Note: the Champêtre was more to my palate.
The fries were decent but their house mayo tasted fishy?
We did not try any drinks.

Service was nice.
(context: reservation, 4 people, on time, 1hr before closing)
We were greeted at the door (possibly because only the entering left door opens: outwards) we were seated with water after checking our reservation with the host. We looked over the menu & our waiter seamlessly came to take our orders. While we waited for our food our waters were consistently refilled. (It looked as though we waited longer for our meals than other tables & the plates were staggered 3 + 1)
At closing a busser came to pick up our plates & their manner was more abrasive than that of our waiter (they both asked before even gesturing to take each of our plates away)
Minimum suggested tip is 18% on the card reader.

Side note for the menu
Some item names are different in French & English & when the runners come to deliver the plates they say the French names.
There is a paper divider between French & English.
When comparing items menu to menu with a friend some were not in the same spots & it was a little confusing.

Food is very delicious, services are fantastic. The double portion foie gras melts smoothly once it get in my mouth.
