Review Summary

Le Passé Composé is widely celebrated as an exceptional brunch destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated and creative menu that frequently highlights high-quality ingredients like duck, foie gras, and bone marrow. Guests often describe the dishes as visually stunning, flavourful, and generously portioned, making for a memorable dining experience. The restaurant is consistently praised for its elegant, rustic-modern decor and its charming atmosphere, particularly on the outdoor terrace. While many patrons enjoy attentive and friendly service, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in staff pacing or communication during busier periods. Despite varying opinions on pricing and table spacing, many diners consider it a must-visit spot and express a strong desire to return for future meals.

Tried the Salmon Waffle with Rustic Poached Eggs & the Forestière Grilled Cheese, & both were fantastic! The salmon waffle was flavorful & well-balanced, with perfectly poached eggs on top. The Forestière Grilled Cheese was rich, crispy, & packed with delicious flavors. Everything was fresh, comforting, & beautifully presented. Definitely a great place to come back to!

Nourriture excellente, service excellent rien à rajouter. Niveau espace c'est un peu difficile, on peut entendre facilement les conversations des gens autour de nous.

Reading the negative experiences I thought wow these people lived the same reality I did here!

Seated for our reservation on time- no issue there. Restaurant wasn't busy like others have mentioned but the service was horrible. Took forever to place an order, drinks took at least 20 mins, all coming out separately. One person in our group got their drinks AFTER the food came out one by one.

The food same issue, plates came out separately with one individual getting their plate when half of us had already finished eating.

Now for the food- if it was amazing there would really be less to complain about but it's honestly overpriced & super basic. Adding sauces & toppings everywhere doesn't make something good.

For example my lox bagel was SITTING in a massive spread of cream cheese. I'm sorry how do you eat that?! It was impossible to pick up, impossible to cut because it was sliding everywhere due to the unnecessary sauce. The flavour was fine but for the price it's ridiculous.

They had the right idea at their old location doing the full breakfast with a little bit of everything.

I'd skip this spot! So many other places worth waiting for.

Excellent service

Delicious food & very good portions for our breakfast. We were going to eat inside but the music was too loud (thus 3 Stars) Not sure what to do in the cooler weather because we will be back. It also in a nice location because we live in Ville Marie & we enjoy walking.

The most perfect brunch spot to visit whenever you're in Montreal. This is by far one of my favourite spots for brunch. I went a long time ago, back in 2021, & I was so happy to have gone again since they relocated to Old Montreal. The exterior is this new building, but inside, it feels like you're in an old building with rustic textures & colours. The ambiance is so lovely & it truly is the best place for delicious brunch items & taking cute pictures too!

My friends & I visited on a Saturday morning without reservations, but we went relatively earlier. We were seated right away for a table of 4 & were served teas & coffee. I ordered the Bone Marrow & Duck Confit which consisted of a country-style bread, duck poached egg, bone marrow, confict duck leg, manchego shavings, herb salted crumble & green peas. It's a massive dish & honestly everything tasted amazing all together. The bone marrow was perfectly cooked & the duck poached egg meld everything together. They also give you another bowl so you can put the marrow once you're done eating it. The bread was needed to soak up every part of this delicious dish.

Other items ordered was the Foie Gras (Chef's specialty) which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, caramelized onion compote & crispy proscuitto chips. The chips were a wonderful item to pair with the seared foie gras. The foie gras was perfectly cooked. The Rustic is another fan favourite which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, sautéed mushrooms. pulled pork, potatoes & argula sprouts. it is such a beautiful dish - nice colours, many ingredients & placed well on the plate; not to mention it was so good too! The last item was the Croque Monsieur which has country-style bread, maple-glaed Gaspor acon, confit tomatoes, cheddar, duck sunny side-up egg on an endive salad. You can't pick it up & munch on it, so you know how big this must have been! Even cut into pieces, it requires some maneuvering to munch on it.

Great place for brunch. Awesome service too. I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a brunch spot!
