Le Passé Composé is widely recognized as a standout destination for elevated brunch in Montreal, celebrated for its creative menu and beautiful presentation. Many guests are impressed by the unique, decadent dishes like the foie gras and bone marrow, noting the thoughtful textures and high-quality ingredients. While the atmosphere is frequently described as gorgeous and elegant, the experience can sometimes be affected by tight seating arrangements or noise levels. Service is often highlighted as attentive and friendly, though some visitors have experienced inconsistencies or longer wait times during peak hours. Despite varying opinions on pricing, many diners view the restaurant as a memorable spot worth visiting for a special meal.
The food was excellent, the beverages were mediocre, & the service left a lot to be desired. Overall felt like a bit of a rip off. A few notes - the decaf coffee was basically undrinkable. Possibly it was an Americano? Maybe it was instant? The'fresh squeezed' orange juice was almost certainly not fresh squeezed. Also, it was $9 for about 6oz. Finally, we specifically ordered a single plain crepe for our 6 year old daughter, as we knew this was something she would eat. First, they brought 3 crepes drenched in syrup & covered in fruit & nuts, & told us they didn't have plain crepes (um they are on the menu…& you just don't put the syrup & fruit on the crepe…) After prompting, they brought back crepes, still drenched in syrup, but with the fruit & nuts in a separate bowl. We were (of course) charged for the sugar/fruit/nuts whatever crepes, & when we questioned this, they oh so apologetically replaced the charge with a single side crepe (wow, it was on the menu) & an $8 side of fruit, reducing our total by a whopping $2. At this point, we were done arguing with someone who was completely clueless, so we paid - only to discover it's not possible to leave less than an 18% tip. So yeah, find somewhere else for bunch. Btw, the eggs Benedict were actually delicious…but totally not worth the rest of the experience.

We had brunch at Passé Composé during our visit to Montréal & really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the croissant breakfast with a side of crispy potatoes & the crêpes, & both dishes were fresh, flavorful, & generously portioned. The ingredients tasted high quality, & everything arrived beautifully presented. The potatoes were nicely cooked, while the crêpes made for a delicious sweet option.
The service was friendly, attentive, & welcoming from the moment we arrived. Even though the restaurant was busy, the staff remained efficient & made us feel well looked after. One of the highlights is the lovely outdoor terrace, which creates a relaxed atmosphere for brunch, especially on a nice day. The location is also excellent, making it easy to stop by while exploring Montréal.
Overall, Passé Composé is a great place if you're looking for a quality brunch with fresh food, generous portions, kind service, & a pleasant setting. I would happily return & recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
