About us
Le Nil Bleu on St-Denis Street in Le Plateau is a rare Ethiopian restaurant to offer flavourful, yet exotic meals that patrons keep going back for. The cuisine at Le Nil Bleu is composed of lamb, chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Le Nil bleu also offers combo plates which allow diners to sample several offerings. The exotic decor features art, musical instruments and print fabrics. The environment is intimate and relaxing. We now offer delivery!

The tasting platters had lots of is a fun eating experience with friends. Very warm & helpful service. The location is enchanting & looks like a great place to be for supper of drinks, though we were the only ones dining today for lunch. I am told by my Ethiopian friends you can't find truly authentic Ethiopian food in MTL, & apparently this place uses more white flour than teff flour, but that's technically hearsay. Very good Ethiopian food. They use only teff injera, keeping it thin. Vegan mix (lentils, veg etc) & ribs good, excellent kitfo. Spicing & preparation slightly adjusted for Canada, but done well (other Ethiopian restaurants are sometimes heavy-handed with spices or oil...not here). Service was excellent, warm & helpful. I judge Ethiopian restaurants by their Kitfo. This one was excellent. Extremely spicy but flavorful. The basic salad was beyond basic flavor-wise. Will be back! I loved it Wow woww You have to try Ethiopian food, you will never regret it. All the different dishes I ordered I ate & loved them (some dishes were hot, I like to eat hot food) Next time I will try different side dishes. The staff is friendly, the place cozy & the bathroom is exactly like a 5-star hotel bathrooms I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Montreal who wants to try something different! It was the first time I had eaten Ethiopian food, the best Ethiopian food ever will return again Five out of five. Well done! We love Ethiopian food & the food here did not disappoint. Great flavours & very nicely presented. The atmosphere was lovely, & the place was busy. The only disappointment was the service. Our first encounter was'are you ready to order?'. I found the waiter a bit abrupt given we've never been here before & he didnt know if we'd ever had Ethiopian before. Then by the end of our meal we had to wait forever & eventually another server to bring us our bill.. we felt completely forgotten. I will say that the host & the wait staff were exceptional & very attentive. I would go back, just hope i would pull a better server or the same server on a better day.View more

Went there for the first time to try Ethiopian food. The decor & ambiance are nice, with good music. The food was very good, & we got the tasting menu for two. The food is great for spicy & spice lovers, with many options & generous portions. However, the desserts were quite average & didn't really relate to the cuisine. Overall, the experience was nice. I was visiting a friend & was raving about ethiopian cuisine. Then we found this restaurant near us. Along with my friends son, we visited this place on a lazy Sunday afternoon. It was pretty empty, & the guy who showed us to a table was nice enough. He placed a few "white" napkins in front of us to wipe our hands with. Unfortunately, the main waitress serving us seemed to have other ideas. As soon as she saw it, she promptly & very rudely whisked the whole tray away while murmuring how we didn't actually "need" those. Next, when we ordered 2 separate meals & also separated Injera, she still piled our meal on one & brought a measly helping of the Injera for which we had paid 5 Canadian dollars. Upon my enquring if we could get some extra she point blank refused. My question is, if we ordered two meal platters, shouldn't we have been given two separate Injeras for that I had thought that in the service industry, guests are important. To our chagrin, we were made to feel like idiots. Maybe it's Montreal hospitality at work here since we definitely cannot speak French. How unfortunate. We carried a bad experience from this place. Food was average. I have had better Ethiopian.View more

The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the quality of the service - the staff did not seem pleasant & seemed a bit cold when we asked questions about the menu. Surprised to be able to reserve a table for two last nminute on a Saturday night, but really glad I did.lovely decor & vibe, with comfortable seating, & background music that allowed customers to carry out normal conversation. Although the place was packed, from the time we walked in to the time we left, service was friendly, attentive & very helpful with questions about a cuisine we were not familiar with. The star of the show was the food. Tasty, plentiful, with just the right amount of spice & aromatics. We chose the meat (they also had a vegetarian option) tasting menu, since it provided a nice intro to Ethiopian cuisine. It included a nice selection of starters to share & a platter of lamb, beef, chicken, lentils & vegetables all cooked in different sauces/styles, with plenty of injera to scoop everything up.
