La Medusa comes across as a warmly welcoming Italian spot in downtown Montreal, offering fresh, well prepared dishes that cover pasta, seafood, pizza and antipasti, plus a strong wine list. Reviews consistently note friendly, attentive service and a lively, family friendly ambiance that suits pre or post game outings near Centre Bell. The food is described as authentic Italian and often excellent, with many praising the pizza crust, the pasta textures and flavorful sauces, though a few mentions call out a risotto that is too salty or prices that can be high. Some moments of slower service or busy nights are acknowledged, but the overall tone points to a reliable favorite worth returning to, including interest in private dining spaces for celebrations. Overall the place is regarded as one of the top Italian options in the area, delivering consistent flavors, helpful staff, and an atmosphere that makes diners feel at home in the city.
DO NOT GO!!!! They will scam you, especially if you are not a regular, or fit their normal demographic. Me & my friends had a HORRIBLE experience!!! The minute we arrived, we could feel that there was a weird vibe. I had gone for a birthday party, & had asked for a menu, to which I was told there are no menus. THEN, when one of our white friends asked for the menu, they went & brought it out. Our waiter then told us that we will be having a fixed menu of selected choices since we were a "huge" group-we were only 9-10 people, & said he told the birthday boy this on the phone when the reservation was made-which he did not. Me & my friend found this sketchy, so we went & spoke to one of the waiters. He kept trying to distract us by saying how beautiful we are & all that, which was condescending given the circumstance. He finally gave in & let us select what we wanted from the menus that they apparently did not have before. The waiter then brought out 3 rounds of appetizers & bread that we did not even ask for. Some of our food was cold, but THE BILL was crazy! They said since it was a group, it would be one bill, & that one person will pay & then we divide amongst ourselves later. Therefore, everyone ended up paying for things they didn't even order/eat. He later allowed us to pay individually (by going up to him & saying what we each ordered), & they were saying random estimate prices & rounding them up for no reason! They even charged the birthday boy for FREE shots that they said were ON THE HOUSE!! Bill was almost $1000.00!!! NEVER EVER GOING BACK!
I was very pleased with the service & menu suggestions. We had the pizza calabrese (so fresh!), the calamari (so tender) & skate with pasta alla olio i aglio (perfect). Finished the meal with espresso, cappucino & fresh cannolis. Everything was perfect. Thank you so much, La Medusa! We will be back!
Friendly servers with Great delicious foods. By far my best restaurant in MTL Downtown. My husband & I will definitely visit again whenever we come back to Montreal
Great welcome, rapid attention, we all went for the daily special soup & Mediterranean Sea Bass
We all loved it. Was nice to finally come back to a place I've always enjoyed, & introduced to a few friends.
& their choice of the white sauvignon blanc was perfect.
Highly recommend it.
