Many reviews highlight La Hueca for warm, attentive service and authentic Ecuadorian flavors, with generous, customizable bowls made from fresh ingredients and good value, featuring classics like encebollado, bolón, ceviche and empanadas, plus colada morada, all in a welcoming setting inside a market food court that adds a charming, offbeat appeal.
It was ok in general. We tried the bowls, the fish was tasty but over-browend fried, the pork was very good, the encurtido a little basic, loved the pineapple! The yuca was really good but the potatoes not as expected. Sweet mayo was very good, not sure about the Ají de la casa, & the chimichurri was ok. Guanabana juice was very good! Nice people, good service.
Fresh & authentic! I enjoyed it so much. I took the build your bowl & it was packed with flavour that I like. Price is good, less than 17$ for a bowl. The staff is also very friendly. My first time there & will be back to try other dishes.
This was my first time having Ecuadorian food, & it was amazing! I had the chicken bowl & absolutely loved how you could choose your own ingredients. The selection of different ingredients was incredible, & the server was super friendly & kindly answered questions I had. The portion size was generous, & the price was reasonable. If I didn't live 5 hours away, I'd be back in a flash!
This lil food court store was a surprise. Flavor packed bowls which you can customize anyway you prefer. Staff is very friendly & knowledgeable. Definitely check it out
If you're tired of Asian takeout, fried chicken, shawarma, sushi, mac&cheese, poke, ramen, burgers & beef noodles, then you owe it to yourself to check out La Hueca.
It's a South American (Ecuadorian) restaurant tucked away in a quiet food court downtown, in the same building as Marche Newon.
The food is uniquely flavored, delicious & really satisfying. Very comforting, especially on those cold, cold days.
I had the grilled chicken bowl - when I finished my meal, I was licking the bowl & already thinking of trying the other items on the menu. 2 carbs & 3 types of veg are included with the bowl so you know you're getting solid nutrition & real value for money.
I highly recommend a visit & do consider getting an extra order for the fam. You won't regret it.
June 2025: no change to my review, still an excellent choice for a great meal downtown.

The place is a bit hard to find, it's in a food court inside the market. The food is great, the place is clean & a service that we got was very friendly & welcoming. I've got a shrimp bowl & my friend a beef one. Don't forget to add their homemade cheese toping. The portions are generous & the food is fresh.
Honestly one of my top lunch spots in Montreal-if not the top. I've been coming to La Hueca for the past year & have tried a variety of dishes from their menu, & every single one has been absolutely amazing. The flavours are bold, authentic, & incredibly satisfying.
I'm not usually the type to write reviews, but I felt compelled because they genuinely deserve the recognition. The owner is super friendly, & you can order either in person or through their easy-to-use automated screen. I love that there's a picture for every dish.
From the beef Empanada, Locro de Papa, shrimp ceviche soup, to their sandwiches & bowls-everything is bursting with flavour. Pure magic.
If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favour & GO.

As an Ecuadorian, super happy to have found this place! :) Flavor is pretty close to what you can find in Ecuador. Loved the customizable bowl concept!

This was my first time trying Ecuadorian food & WOW! I'm carribean & grew up in a multicultural neighborhood in MTL with Dominicans, Salvadorians etc. The food was extremely good. The Chef & co-owner David explained me how to build my meal, was very welcoming & greeted me warmly when I had just arrived. I ordered Asada Carne bowl It was a pretty big bowl, nicely served, servi e was very fast & very pleasant. The music playing felt like home. Before leaving I did tell David that I would be back since I now work nearby.
It's been a while since I did a food review but this place was so phenomenal I had to jump on immediately. There is a reason this place has 5 stars with 200+ reviews. The service is friendly & warm, the prices for the food is literally unbeatable for Montreal, & the FOOOD! Absolutely unreal food. Packed plates with a make you own bowl option. The food was the type of stuff that makes you dance with happiness. I cannot get over the quality of the food at such a good price. An absolute must try in Montreal. 100/10.
My first time having Ecuadorian food! Their bowls were delicious. Lots of flavour & I loved the different textures. I tried mote for the first time. It's giant corn kernels & tastes like potatoes. Their queso fresco is not too salty, like at some other places I've had. Service was warm & welcoming. It's in the Faubourg food court on the second floor towards the back. Follow the yellow tape on the ground, it will take you right there.
