The vibes? Immaculate. The music? Banging. Eddie? The best. So much fun on my birthday trip to Montreal. Highly recommend the mackerel & the Mt. Fuji cocktail. If Google gave me 6 stars, Kyodai Izakaya would get 6 stars
Kyodai Izakaya is hands down one of the best spots in Montreal for an authentic Japanese pub experience. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere takes you to a trip in japan, perfect for a night out with friends or a fun date.
The food is incredible, everything was seasoned to perfection & served hot.
The service was fast & friendly, making sure our drinks were never empty. If you're looking for great vibes & even better food in the city, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Good looking Japanese pub & amazing service. As for the food, Kyodai Izakaya is a jack of all trades but master of none; it's good, just not great. Everything you eat here is done better elsewhere in more specialized restaurants.
The chicken skewers are ok, the ramen is decent but needs more meat (you only get a single slice of chashu pork) & the curry rice is good but I've had much better.
Nothing really stands out here, unfortunately. It's just serviceable.
Kyodai Izakaya is a restaurant/bar near the Atwater Subway Station that is Izakaya-style. That alone sets it apart from most Japanese restaurants you find in Montreal: sushi & ramen being the two typical offerings.
I thoroughly enjoy visiting that restaurant, I have been multiple times. The waiters & waitresses are all very friendly & the food is very good. I particularly enjoy the Tempura Combo Set, which is hard to come by on the island of Montreal.
I thoroughly recommend going: perfect for a solo traveler looking to play retro Nintendo games (yay Switch 2), or perfect to go as a group also! I only wish they were open for lunch hour as well.
Amazing atmosphere & decor! Very similar to the little izakaya joints in Japan. Food was overall really good. Loved the duck tataki the most! Just wished the chicken katsu had a little more flavour but other than that it was still a great experience & would come back to try other things on the menu for both food & cocktails!
Absolutely loved Kyodai Izakaya! The food was incredibly good - the fried tempura was light & crispy, the curry katsu was full of flavor, & the sashimi platter was chef's kiss! Their cocktails & mocktails were also so, so good. Our table was filled with endless delicious dishes, & everything was pure perfection. Amazing service & the sweetest hospitality, can't wait to go back!!!!

We love izakayas & Japanese food.
This one has fun ambiance, friendly service & excellent seat/table spacing.
We particularly enjoyed the takoyaki (octopus filled dough balls), the Gohanmono (eel rice bowl), & the Katsu dishes (kind of like Japanese schnitzel) - both the regular & curry version (my partner thought his was not hot enough, temp-wise).
We had a great time… fun place for an enjoyable night out. I thought it was well/accurately priced.
Definitely want to return for the Gohanmono & maybe some more tempura for starters, & we have yet to try the korroke (mashed potato croquettes), & the karaage (fried chicken)…
Lots of variety on the menu! 👍
Good Izakaya vibes with an impeccable service as always. The squid is well grilled & very fresh. The Okonomiyaki is my favorite ~
It's always nice to have a sake, plum wine, or sapporo to balance well with the food!
For a Wednesday, it's a perfect place to drink cold sake & relax. I may recommend making a reservation if it's during the weekends, though, since it's busier, but worth to pass by & try some new dishes
Great izakaya place close to the Forum. Went there for a movie night & I enjoyed some takoyaki & had ramen, which were really good. The ambience is awesome, properly themed after Japanese izakaya & playing non-stop city pop & 80/90s anime theme songs. Will definitely go there again.

Kyodai Japanese Izakaya is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Japanese food in a cozy, vibrant setting. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, with beautiful decor that instantly transports you to Tokyo. The menu is full of flavorful small plates, fresh sashimi, grilled, & unique cocktails. Every dish is crafted with care & presented beautifully. The staff are welcoming & knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the perfect pairing. A perfect spot for a night out with friends or a casual dinner date. Can't wait to go back!
Went to kyodai Izakaya for the first time today, & what an amazing surprise!! We ate korokke, the curry katsu & a bowl of ramen. Everything was absolutely delicious! The korokke & Katsu were so wonderfully crispy, pork was juicy too! The rice was perfectly cooked & the ramen was simply delicious. The staff was friendly & polite & caring, always making sure we were fine without being abnoxious. We simply had a wonderful time.
Kyodai Izakaya is a fantastic spot with delicious, authentic Japanese dishes & a cozy atmosphere. The staff is friendly & attentive, making every visit enjoyable. Highly recommend!
I almost gave this place 4 stars. A couple of small changes could boost my rating to 4 or even 5. Service - The only two people who appear to work the front of the house were wonderful. Friendly & helpful. The problem is, only one wait staff & one bartender... for the whole restaurant. So service, while pleasant, was very slow. I saw the same comment in other reviews. It doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. They just seem to be chronically understaffed. This needs to change. Food - Good, but given how slow the service was, we only made 1 order, so didn't try as much as we would have liked. Normally at an Izakaya we order at least 2, if not 3 rounds of food. Overall, nothing I tried was amazing, but again, what I sampled was limited. Cocktails were ok. Atmosphere - Nice, but we were seated at the back of the restaurant, & it seemed liek they ran out of lights or decorations before they got to the back. So those last few tables are a bit drab when compared to the rest of the restaurant. Also, the music only seems to play in front. Again, the back of the restaurant lacks atmosphere that you find in the rest of the place. Overall, I think this place has potential, & the staff are great. They just need to finish decorating & hire more servers. Then this place should be good. However, given how many good Izakayas there are in MTL, I won't likely be back to find out.
Kyodai Izakaya exceeded all my expectations with its impeccable service & mouthwatering dishes! A special shoutout to Eddy, who went above & beyond by accommodating us with a custom drink change. His attention to detail & warm hospitality truly stood out. The katsu chicken with curry rice was nothing short of divine. Every bite was pure ecstasy, perfectly cooked, & bursting with flavor. To top it off, they surprised me with a delightful green tea cake to celebrate my birthday, which was both thoughtful & utterly delicious. Kyodai Izakaya is a must-visit for anyone looking for exceptional Japanese cuisine paired with outstanding service. I'll definitely be back!
Great evening at Tempura Kyodai. Pub style izakaya. Fun place to chill with your peeps, have savoury cocktail & down a whole lot of Japanese awesomeness. Service was great too.
Great hangout spot with amazing vibes! The service is amazing, & the decor resembles the japanese izakaya alleys. The food is good & affordable, & the menu has a ton of variety so there's something for everyone. I recommend the engawa tataki, the kitsune udon, & the curry rice bowls. Disclaimer: my meal was comped, all opinions are my own.
