Kyodai Izakaya offers an authentic Japanese pub vibe with a cozy, lively atmosphere where fresh, flavorful small plates like takoyaki, gyoza, karaage, tataki, ramen and udon are served hot and nicely presented, paired with a varied sake and cocktail menu. The service is consistently friendly and attentive, helping guests feel at home and making meals feel special whether for a casual night out or celebration. The space, decor and music contribute to a welcoming character that many describe as transporting to Japan, while the menu delivers strong favorites and occasional standout dishes such as unagi udon, duck tataki and curry katsu. In short, Kyodai Izakaya is a dependable go-to for tasty Japanese tapas, great drinks and a memorable, convivial dining experience.
Went to kyodai Izakaya for the first time today, & what an amazing surprise!! We ate korokke, the curry katsu & a bowl of ramen. Everything was absolutely delicious! The korokke & Katsu were so wonderfully crispy, pork was juicy too! The rice was perfectly cooked & the ramen was simply delicious. The staff was friendly & polite & caring, always making sure we were fine without being abnoxious. We simply had a wonderful time.
Had a really great experience & will definitely be returning. My only qualm is that the karaage chicken (while juicy & crispy) had a distinctive fishy or seaweed like tasty ? An ocean taste. I assume it's because they're fried in the same oil.

I had a great time ! Kyodai is honestly a hidden gem with authentic Japanese dishes & a warm ambiance. The sashimi was fresh, & my favorite dishes were the calamari & I believe fried purple sweet potatoes.
Also, both servers were adorable the entire night. I definitely recommend the place

Kyodai Izakaya is a fantastic spot with delicious, authentic Japanese dishes & a cozy atmosphere. The staff is friendly & attentive, making every visit enjoyable. Highly recommend!
What a great find! Food was delicious. We were a large group & they were so accommodating. Highlights of the evening was the duck tataki & the unagi rice bowl! We hadn't had eel this good since our trip to Japan! & they have actual dango! We will definitely be back! Thank you 💕
So good my husband got the eel fried rice & I got the curry so yummy! Just visiting from NS & you can't get food like this there next time we are back to Montreal we will definitely go again. The atmosphere is fantastic & the cocktails are yummy!
The food was amazing, exceptional service & will be more than happy to come back on our next visit to Montreal.
The vibe of the place is welcoming & the staff are very friendly, I highly recommend 👌
I've been to Kyodai twice now, & both experiences were wildly different, with the second visit being quite upsetting & unfortunate.
I'll start with the first visit. My partner & I stopped in there to grab a drink while we waited for our reservation at another place, this was back in January. The staff were super nice with us & we were chatting quite a bit, & they gave us some menu cards to share with others & a stamp card. We were hype, it was a great time! We left & went to our other stop, then we decided to come back for more dinks. The staff welcomed us back & once again we were talking lots & had a wonderful time. They asked us to leave a Google review & I wanted to, but I decided to wait til I could go back to get some food & take photos to add with the review. So I convinced a couple friends by telling them about our experience & sharing the menu, & we all excitedly chose a date & made a reservation.
Onto our second visit. We had a reservation last night (so early March) & it was not nearly as friendly or enjoyable. The staff didn't remember us which was fine & expected, though a little sad. After about 15minutes, myself & the two others we brought had ordered drinks about 10mins before my partner arrived, & we didn't get those drinks til about another 10-15mins after he arrived. We then waited another 20mins at least before I had to waive someone over to take our order. It took a long time for food to come out, which I sort of expected with it all being made fresh & it was a busy night, but items came out in staggeringly different times. One of us had also ordered a miso soup & we asked for it again twice before we decided to just take it off of our order. We also asked for water when we placed our first drink order, & again when we ordered our food, & we had to ask a third time, we didn't get water until after all our food had come out, so about an hour & a half into our visit. Some of the food was good & very tasty, but much of it was disappointing. The squid was overcooked & very tough, the korroke were overcooked & hard, the udon noodle soup was very oily, the tonkatsu ramen seemed like it was made with instant noodles, the sabo & duck tataki had way too much ponzu, it was like it was in a pool of it. We also noticed that we consistently were seeing other tables getting served much faster than us & having much more attention from the staff, while we never had anyone check on us & had to keep asking for things. It was like we were non existent. We decided to leave, & admittedly the person who paid said they didn't overlook the receipt before paying because they just kind of wanted to get out, but a couple hours later we looked at the receipt & saw we were charged for 2 pitchers of Sapporo for 44$. We never ordered Sapporo or any kind of pitcher, so there's absolutely zero reason we should have been charged for such. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Both of these instances feel like we were in two completely different places, & given how much fun & how much we enjoyed the staff when we first went, I never would have thought we'd return to have an experience that felt so opposite. I would like to think that it was just a busy night or they were understaffed or something, but that last experience was very saddening & I really don't think I would come back after that. I'll still give a couple stars because of how our first visit went.
