Kitano Shokudo is a true gem in Montreal. The food is authentically Japanese, beautifully executed, & paired with a fun, lively vibe. Sitting at the bar made the experience even better. The menu strikes a great balance between excellent sushi & Japanese dishes. The duck was outstanding, the fried chicken & Brussels sprouts were addictive, & the saki was great. An all around great night with great food & energy. Can't wait to go back.

Hands down the best Japanese food!
The sashimi platter was amazing, we also enjoyed their miso soup, the uni carbonara & the mapo tofu.
Can't wait to return for more sashimi!
The waiter was nice & I love the cozy vibes.

We had the sashimi, Maguro Don, & Uni Carbonara-everything was so good! The Maguro Don was my favorite-fresh, flavorful, & perfectly done. The vibe was awesome too, with a DJ spinning great music on turntables & stylish decor that added to the experience. Highly recommend!

This restaurant has a casual but intimate vibe, with really excellent fish-forward dishes. Reservations are highly recommended, as it's in-demand & tiny - about 9 bar seats plus a few tables for small groups. The sole server accommodated folks without reservations as able, but those with reservations were given priority & generally had a less rushed experience. Service was attentive & efficient.

came for random lunch, was pleasantly surprised by how GOOD everything was!! nice vibes too & great service

what we got:
duck leg confit mazemen $32
mushroom mazemen $24
chirashi bowl $38
kani hotate ikura don $46

so yeah everything was rly good. if i had to pick i would say chirashi bowl & mushroom mazemen were my top. the crab/scallop don was good too if you rly want crab but the chirashi bowl is less $$ with more variety & the tuna!! the rice is perfectly seasoned & w the wasabi & ikura w ur sashimi ugh perfect bite. the duck mazemen was okkk for me, but the mushroom mazemen just stood out way more, i feel like it had much more flavour & depth

overall super nice experience would def recommend

Vibes: Live dj by the front window playing the smoothest mix of jazz & soul among plants & textiles. Intimate & homey decor. Four tables & a packed izakaya bar.

Food: the FOOD!!
The duck mazumen is decadent yall. Could have eaten a bowl of the noodles alone, so simply but richly seasoned with scallions, egg, onion. That duck skin is so fkn good I saved pieces for my last bite.

Tamago gohan (egg rice) was everything I needed. If you love egg rice or congee, this is an elevated must-get. Listed as'hotate ikura tamago ankake gohan' on the specials menu, it is fluffy rice nestled in a layer of pillowy dashi broth (more a sauce than a soup) with scallops, salmon roe, & the fluffiest scrambled egg. After days of traveling & rich food, this felt like a gift. Goes well with the phenomenal sake.

A cute little place that I've passed by a dozen times on Mont Royal & never noticed, until a friend in the neighbourhood said we had to try it, his favorite Japanese restaurant in Montreal. We had the sashimi for two (very fresh & tasty, although a little lacking on presentation), & the brussel sprouts smothered (in a good way) in a soy-balsamic sauce. Then we had the wild boar mapo-tofu, very good although the portions were small. Having a little more atmosphere & a friendlier vibe would contribute a lot to this place.

Very cozy & small restaurant with a chill vibe. Service was on the slower side as there was only one waiter. The food was however pretty good. My favourite dishes were the duck mazeman & the crab mazeman. The duck was very crispy & fall off the bone tender. The noodles mixed with the egg made it very rich & delicious. The crab mazeman had a hint of spicy & the ikura complimented the dish well. It tasted very seafoody & it was a generous portion of crab. Was dissaponted with the chicken wings as it tasted pretty bland (special of the week). The Brussels sprouts were good but nothing out of the ordinary. Would come again for the mazeman & to try out their chirashi.

Food was definitely unique & the vibe of the restaurant was nice. However, I feel that, at this price point, service was lacking (we stood around for a fair while before being seated; water wasn't refilled until we asked; no tissue to dry hands in the toilets). I unfortunately wouldn't return, though it's still an experience.

Oh my goodness, let me just tell you about my experience at this restaurant! So, I went there with a friend for the first time on Tuesday, & it was absolutely incredible. We were greeted by Sam, who made us feel so welcome. He recommended this delicious blond Japanese imported beer for me, & my friend had Sake, & let me tell you, they paired perfectly with everything we ordered. Speaking of the food, it was out of this world. We had the Tako Salad, Uni & bone marrow mezamen, the snow crab mezamen, & the Shoyu Ramen. Each dish was so exciting & incredibly delicious. The ingredients were all perfectly balanced & you could really taste each individual flavor. & let's talk about the ambiance - the musique, vibe, & overall ambiance were just spot on. It felt like I was visiting a dear friend. The service was impeccable, & I felt so at ease. As someone who's a bit of an introvert & can be shy, it's not always easy for me to feel comfortable everywhere, but this place just had such a cozy & welcoming atmosphere. Now, here's the best part - I loved it so much that I went back solo on Thursday. I actually booked a table just an hour after I left on Tuesday, that's how much I was daydreaming about going back. & let me tell you, it did not disappoint. This time, I sat at the bar & had the pleasure of chatting with the person sitting next to me. He had actually traveled all the way from the Laurentide just to dine here, & I totally get why. It's just that amazing. So yeah, needless to say, I'm one happy customer & I can't wait to go back again & again.
