The Keg Steakhouse + Bar opened the doors of its first restaurant in 1971 in Vancouver. Since then, The Keg has expanded across Canada and the US to include over 100 locations. Although its name and décor have changed over time, the dining experience has always stayed consistent. The Keg’s focus has been, and continues to be, on providing exceptional service and quality food in a comfortable atmosphere for its guests.
Quality, comfort and value are three key ingredients that make The Keg experience unlike any other. When it comes to steak, The Keg serves only the finest cuts, aged for tenderness and seasoned with a unique blend. Classic cocktails, delicious appetizers, succulent seafood, and an outstanding wine list round out its classic menu. The Keg’s friendly and knowledgeable staff creates an atmosphere that encourages guests to enjoy, relax and be themselves. Whether you’re getting together with friends or celebrating with family, you’ll always be welcomed with a smile.
Reviews describe The Keg as a reliably flavorful steakhouse with steaks like filet mignon, ribeye, and prime rib, plus strong options such as tuna tartare and the twice baked potato, in a warm Old Montreal setting that many find cozy and inviting. Allergy accommodations are frequently praised, with meals adjusted to avoid nuts or eggs, and service is often described as friendly and attentive. However, some visits are marked by long wait times despite reservations, uneven pacing, and occasional dishes arriving cold or overcooked, while noise levels and occasional staff missteps can detract from the experience. Overall, guests consider the value for quality to be good, would return for celebrations or a relaxed steak night, and see The Keg as a dependable choice with strong bar and ambiance.
The Keg is'a classic'. Consistently high quality steaks & sides, although this time stuff wasn't as piping hot as expected. Served with a smile. We were just seated in a terrible spot, constant traffic through to the kitchen, chairs hoisted through the room.
I recently visited The Keg downtown with my family to celebrate our birthdays. This time, the experience was a bit more mixed than my last visit, but it still ended on a very positive note.
I ordered the prime rib medium rare, but when it first came out, it was unfortunately well done. I usually do not like mentioning when something is wrong, especially to the waiter, but since it is not a cheap restaurant, I felt it was fair to say something. To their credit, the staff handled it very kindly & replaced it for me without any issue. After that, everything was great.
The rest of the evening was really enjoyable, & the service improved the experience a lot. Since we were celebrating birthdays, they brought out two cakes, which was such a nice touch.
& I have to say, the moka ice cream cake was absolutely incredible. Honestly, it was so good that I would go back just for that alone. I seriously need to find out where they get that cake from because I want a whole one for myself.
Overall, while the meal did not start off perfectly, the staff made the effort to fix it, & that made a big difference. The birthday celebration ended up being a great one, & that cake was unforgettable.

1st... Victoria is an amazing server. Amazing. 2nd, this place is on top of everything. Communication. Timing. Floor management. Courtesy, all of it... & of course the food was on point. Dinner for 4, lots of shared variety on our table & not one thing disappointed. Not one.
Très belle soirée au Keg. La côte de boeuf & le filet mignon au bleu étaient parfaitement cuits & délicieux. Les cocktails, excellents. Le point fort : le service de Jacob. Notre première fois & certainement pas notre dernière au Keg !
I come here every year since 2015. The taste has definitely gone down. & the candy they give at the end of out last weeks visit looks like it has been bitten by someone.
We took an Impromptu trip to Montreal from upstate NY, & we loved every minute. I am very picky when it comes to steak, & was not disappointed. The twice baked potato was amazing as well. I do not eat calamari but my husband loved it. If you're in the area, I reccomend this steak place.
The food was delicious & our waitress was the best but we waited a long time before getting a table even though we had a reservation, we saw multiple people getting sat before us
We were a party of five, four adults & a child. We ordered a couple of items off the winter grill. T-Bone, & mushroom truffle sirloin, both were well received. At the Keg, I would add both the Double-booked potato & Escargot are a must. Server Angelo & the chef were great, helping to accommodate one person in our group who needed a low sodium meal, & nut free for three others. However, the young hostess who lead us to our table was anything but polite.
