The Keg Steakhouse + Bar opened the doors of its first restaurant in 1971 in Vancouver. Since then, The Keg has expanded across Canada and the US to include over 100 locations. Although its name and décor have changed over time, the dining experience has always stayed consistent. The Keg’s focus has been, and continues to be, on providing exceptional service and quality food in a comfortable atmosphere for its guests.
Quality, comfort and value are three key ingredients that make The Keg experience unlike any other. When it comes to steak, The Keg serves only the finest cuts, aged for tenderness and seasoned with a unique blend. Classic cocktails, delicious appetizers, succulent seafood, and an outstanding wine list round out its classic menu. The Keg’s friendly and knowledgeable staff creates an atmosphere that encourages guests to enjoy, relax and be themselves. Whether you’re getting together with friends or celebrating with family, you’ll always be welcomed with a smile.
Reviews describe The Keg as a reliably flavorful steakhouse with steaks like filet mignon, ribeye, and prime rib, plus strong options such as tuna tartare and the twice baked potato, in a warm Old Montreal setting that many find cozy and inviting. Allergy accommodations are frequently praised, with meals adjusted to avoid nuts or eggs, and service is often described as friendly and attentive. However, some visits are marked by long wait times despite reservations, uneven pacing, and occasional dishes arriving cold or overcooked, while noise levels and occasional staff missteps can detract from the experience. Overall, guests consider the value for quality to be good, would return for celebrations or a relaxed steak night, and see The Keg as a dependable choice with strong bar and ambiance.
Sought out a celiac-friendly steakhouse & got the most attentive service we've ever had. After informing them we had a gluten allergy, they constantly checked on us to confirm how food options would be modified. Our waiter was also very nice. The steaks were great & the apps were a mix between amazing (mushrooms) & fine (shrimp cocktail). Caeser cocktail was also a hit. I wish I'd learned about them sooner.

Was here for F1 weekend. Was told we could sit on the patio since there was an event in the dinning room. After they forgot our order for over an hour - they invited us inside where half the restaurant was empty. Gave us 5 free shrimp as a sorry, & then added it to our bill by mistake... Poor operation & not up to the'Keg' quality.
For our family & friends, Grand Prix weekend in Montreal simply would not be complete without dinner at The Keg Vieux-Port. We have been coming here every Formula 1 weekend since 1992, & after more than three decades, this restaurant continues to deliver the same outstanding experience that first made it a tradition for us.
The atmosphere is warm, lively, & perfectly suited to the excitement of Grand Prix weekend, while still maintaining the classic elegance & consistency that The Keg is known for. Year after year, the food is exceptional - perfectly prepared steaks, great wine selection, & impeccable service that always makes us feel genuinely welcomed.
A very special thank you goes to our incredible server, Felix, whose professionalism, attention to detail, & friendly personality consistently elevate our dining experience. Felix has an amazing ability to make every visit feel personal & memorable, even during one of the busiest weekends of the year.
We would also like to recognize Manager Clare for her outstanding leadership & hospitality. It is clear that the high standards & welcoming atmosphere of this establishment start from the top. Clare always ensures that guests are treated exceptionally well, & her dedication is one of the reasons we continue returning year after year.
After 30+ years of traditions & wonderful memories, The Keg Vieux-Port remains one of our absolute favorite dining destinations in Montreal. We are already looking forward to returning next Grand Prix weekend.❤?

We had an amazing experience! The atmosphere was really nice, with beautiful decoration, & everything was very clean. Even when it gets crowded, you can still comfortably talk with others, which makes the experience even better.
The menu offers a wide variety of options, both for food & wine. The portions are satisfying, & the prices are well aligned with the quality.
We were served by Lily, a very lovely & kind woman who truly made our time in Canada - & especially in Montreal - exceptional.
I highly recommend this place. If you are visiting from abroad, it is definitely worth a visit!
Please keep in mind, that it requires a reservation, otherwise it will be difficult to find an available table.
Ridiculous prices especially for Ribs lol. I recd 6 small ones mash potatoes greens for $35.00. Potatoes are .10 lol ribs were not worth 30.00. Green beans not a lot of money. Hamburger 26.00 lol stupid. I would never go back. Drinks are 17.00+. Dumb.
The Keg is'a classic'. Consistently high quality steaks & sides, although this time stuff wasn't as piping hot as expected. Served with a smile. We were just seated in a terrible spot, constant traffic through to the kitchen, chairs hoisted through the room.
