Review Summary

Reviews for J'ai Feng are highly polarized, with many patrons praising the authentic flavors, unique ingredient combinations, and the friendly, accommodating nature of the staff. Supporters often highlight the exceptional quality of the noodles and the rotating menu as a highlight for a comforting meal. Conversely, many customers express dissatisfaction regarding the pricing, noting that the cost is high for the portion sizes provided. Some feedback also points to issues with the limited takeout-only setup, a perceived lack of depth in certain dishes, and unexpected costs for extras or beverages, leaving the overall consensus split between those who find the experience a delicious discovery and those who feel it does not offer sufficient value.

I was there with my fiancé & we took the Yunan style tofu noodles, it was one of the best noodle dishes I've had in my life. Thank you.

Unfortunately, J'ai Feng was a disappointing experience for me, especially considering the hype & the difficulty of actually visiting due to the limited hours. I was genuinely excited to try what many people describe as authentic Chinese noodles in Montreal's Little Italy, but the food & value did not meet expectations.

Since the menu is very small, I expected each dish to be exceptional. I ordered both noodle dishes along with the pickled vegetables, & the total came to over $60. For that price, I expected much more balance & depth in flavor.

The hot noodles tasted mostly like bland chicken broth with a heavy amount of chili oil & very little seasoning overall. The cold noodles were dominated by ginger & mint to the point that the other flavors disappeared completely. The pickled vegetables also had an overpowering dill flavor that didn't work for me at all.

I appreciate authentic Chinese cuisine & understand that flavors can be subjective, but this simply wasn't enjoyable for me, especially at the price point.

If you're looking for authentic Asian food in Little Italy, I would personally recommend Épicerie Pumpui for Thai food or Gaia Restaurant for Vietnamese cuisine instead

Food was ok, unfortunately you can get a lot better for way less in other neighborhoods. I found $22 to be expensive for what it was.
