Hwaro's onions deserve their own standing ovation, because somehow they have achieved the impossible task of turning a simple vegetable into the highlight of the entire meal. The moment they hit the table, sizzling with that rich smoky aroma from the grill, they already announce themselves like royalty. Sweet, caramelized, slightly charred at the edges, yet still carrying that satisfying bite in the center, they balance perfectly between softness & texture in a way that feels almost engineered by culinary scientists rather than cooked by human hands. They absorb all the savory magic of the barbecue around them - the juices, the marinades, the fire itself - until each slice tastes like concentrated flavor. They are not just'good onions'; they are the kind of onions that make you pause mid-conversation & point at the plate saying,'Wait… why are these THIS good?' They somehow become buttery without being butter, sweet without being sugary, smoky without tasting burnt, & addictive to the point where you start stealing everyone else's portions when they aren't looking. At Hwaro, the onions are no longer a side dish; they are a spiritual experience disguised as garnish, the unsung heroes of the grill, the golden rings of transcendence that make you question whether every onion you've eaten before this moment was merely pretending to be an onion.
PS ONIONS & ICE-CREAM ON TOP
Tried the chicken bibimbap today & it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked-tender, flavorful, & coated in a rich, slightly spicy sauce. The vegetables were fresh & crisp, adding great texture, & everything mixed together so well with the rice.
The portion size was generous, & the balance of flavors was spot on. Paired it with a cold lychee-flavored soju, which added a light, sweet touch & complemented the dish really well. The atmosphere was bright & relaxing, especially with the window view.
Definitely a place I'd come back to. Highly recommend if you're craving a satisfying & flavorful Korean dish.
First Korean BBQ restaurant in Laval. I was not disapponted. Even though it's not authentic Korean, it's a great place for a fun evening. Nice vibe. Maximum seating is for 6 people so it's problematic if you are a bigger group. The choice of meat is incredible. So many choices. However, I would have liked small pork belly pieces which they didn't have. They don't have ssamjang to enhance the meat either. They have weird sauces (house sauce, sweet soy sauce) instead. They don't have enough variety of side dishes. However, their fried wontons were delicious & they had so much fresh lettuce which was amazing because most restaurants are cheap on lettuce. Service was great at the beginning but it deteriorated at the end. They kept losing & mixing our orders. For dessert, sadly, there was just soft vanilla ice cream with a choice of strawberry or chocolate syrup. Parking is a bit difficult. The underground parking is often full. Also, reservation is a must on weekends. In all, it was a nice experience.
Marushka was our server & she was super sweet & very attentive. The service was awesome & the choice of beef was pretty high quality. It was a pretty fun time & watching the kpop videos that were in constant play was pretty entertaining. Overall nice vibe.
