Review Summary

HANA Korean Steakhouse offers an upscale and unique dining experience in Montreal, characterized by high-quality meats, attentive grill-side service, and a sophisticated atmosphere perfect for special occasions. Many guests praise the delicious flavors, the curated tasting menus, and the professional staff, noting that the combination of premium ingredients and expert preparation justifies the price point for many. While most reviews highlight the exceptional quality of the food and the attentive nature of the servers, some patrons have reported occasional inconsistencies in service speed, wait times for reservations, or a preference for more refined dessert options. Overall, the establishment is widely regarded as a standout destination for those seeking a modern, fusion-inspired approach to traditional Korean barbecue.

Update 2027-07-26:
We went back to try their Omakase menu & it was fantastic. If you had to choose only one choice on the menu, the Omakase lets you try a little bit of everything they have to offer with some really unique options. I really hope they get a Michelin star one day.

Original review:
Hana Korean Steakhouse feels like a fusion of Okeya Kyujiro's top-tier omakase experience & Gyu-Kaku's grill-your-own-meat concept. They're both my favorite restaurants in Montreal & Hana offers a more premium take on Korean barbecue, while also featuring its own Omakase menu.

Hana is easily one of the most unique restaurant experiences you can find in Montreal & a very high recommend. Coming from someone that's visited a ton of restaurants across the city, if you're a fan of meat & simple but very tasty meals, this is a must to go.

I can't comment too much on whether the Korean part of the cuisine was authentic or not, but whatever the case is, it was absolutely delicious.

The staff & customer service was excellent as well. We were served by the floor manager that was not only managing reception & overseeing all the tables, but also serving us personally. We couldn't have asked for a better service & she did a fantastic job of accommodating us.

The restaurant has both a bar & normal table seating (I believe up to 6 per table) & the menu has three'categories' of options: a normal menu where you can order a set meal, an Omakase menu with a wide variety of tasting menu items & a fixed menu of a bunch of meat options (with side dishes). You can combine all of the above or add extras, but in all honesty, it's more then enough food if you took an appetizer & one of the above.

My only two small complaints:
- The dessert was a little disappointed as I was hoping we would get a premium/unique Korean dessert, but instead we got a simple scoop of ice cream that had a weird strong citrusy favor.
- The noise level at 7h PM on a Saturday was ok, but as the night continued, the rest of the guests got extremely loud. I wouldn't be shocked if the later crowd is more rambunctious, so time your visit in terms of what you're looking for. If you want a romantic evening, the earlier the best & I would avoid anything past 9h PM.

Finally, some reviewers mentioned slow service, but please note that this is NOT your traditional restaurant. The staff not only needs to wait tables, but also cook part of the meal live in front of you. It's completely normal that this experience will take a while, so don't expect a quick/cheap meal where you'll go in & out in less then an hour.

P.S.: I hope they open up for lunch in the future, as I'd pass by with coworkers or Saturday quite often!

Upscale spot for BBQ. Great ambiance, small footprint, lovely decor. Service was excellent, food even better. Very nice experience overall. Will return.

Good food. Inattentive service, not rude, but not great for this price point; which seems to be echoed by a few other reviews. We had two different servers. One was ok, & helped near the end, perhaps to make up for the poor experience. Food quality was good but, as other reviews have mentioned, deeply let down by the service.

Overall great vibe & presentation. We've reserved & arrived on time. They made us sit at the bar until our table is ready. This shows that they don't put pressure on customers to finish quickly for the next reservation, which is a nice & relaxing atmosphere. They said sorry multiple times & that our tables are getting cleaned, ready with ETA, etc, never forgetting us & always updating us. Once we got to our table, the waiter serving us took our orders nicely. Later on, he forgot the types of meat cuts before presenting, so he had to ask his colleagues or manager so he doesn't give out any wrong information. I knew what the cuts were, but I had to let the restaurant crew do their job. His colleagues & manager were patient & experienced as he was clearly new & learning. He said the right thing although he was nervous. I lightened up the mood to make him feel at ease by making some dads jokes. The banquettes were comfy, the waiter was grilling & cutting the meats for us while listening awkwardly to our conversation which is okay because we purposely had some NPC conversations. I understand the loud couples around our table sitting with their arms resting on top of the backrest with drinks in their hands, talking & laughing out loud. That's the good-life vibe. This place allows you to do all that so there's none of your friends assigned to grill the meat for you. Pricier on the service because of that, but you get what you pay for & they have delicious sides worth being a'not-so-cheap' Korean BBQ.

This place is excellent. We are so lucky to have such an amazing culinary scene in Montreal & Hana now makes us feel closer to another part of the world we've yet to discover.
Food was spot on. The seafood & fish appetizers were beautiful & tasty. Sides are perfect & quality of the meat is right up there with the best.
Next time we will try the dry aged ribeye.
Only small correction to be made on their part was that our server spoke so low we could barely hear her. The rest of the staff were very professional.
Absolutely going back
