Step into Restaurant Gandhi and the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal give way to the fragrant spices and the aromatic flavours of the Asian subcontinent. Traditional Indian music plays as you dine, providing a gentle serenade to accompany your meal.
Unlike most indian restaurants, you will feel like you're dining al fresco: soft light, bistro-style tables with crisp white lines, and the yellow walls with their window-like cubby holes recall a sunset over the Ganges half a world away. Gandhi engages all five senses to create a memorable dining experience. For those who prefer a take out, our team will be please to prepare your meal with the same touch of love!
Gandhi offers a warm, inviting Indian dining experience with aromatic, well-balanced dishes that showcase generous portions of tandoori specialties, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and biryani. The naan, especially garlic naan, is often praised as outstanding, with papadam and chutneys as a memorable start. The service is consistently attentive and friendly, with staff going the extra mile to ensure guests feel at home. The ambiance ranges from a calm, refined Old Montreal setting to a cozy, bustling vibe, with tasteful decor and comfortable linens. The vegetarian options are plentiful and delicious, and halal choices are noted. Some comments mention value for money and occasional longer waits during peak hours, but the overall sentiment highlights bold flavors, authenticity, and care in presentation. Frequent visitors describe Gandhi as a reliable favorite for family meals, celebrations, and casual dinners alike, with butter chicken and richly spiced curries inviting repeat visits.
Unreal, just unreal. This is exactly what you want at an Indian restaurant, especially in Montreal. Delicious curries, friendly service & gergous desigining for the interior. I don't understand why there are so many 1 star reviews. It is not fair on behalf of the restaurant. Ichecked on TripAdvisor & they are well above 4.5 stars. Don't refer to Indian reviews like this, take it from me. Visit high quality websites, such as TripAdvisor or RestoMontreal GANDHI NEVER DISAPPOINTS.
Once the proprietor focused his attention on our table at dinner, we got personalized, excellent service. The other waiters don't appear to care for the restaurant or their customers, sadly. At 1:30 pm a day before, we were greeted at the door by one waiter, who said they were closed! Curtly, he pointed us to the "tourist area"(!!!!) Suggesting we could all go there. Mr. Farouk will remember me.
Our aloo dish was literally spoiled. The papadum was not cooked. They admitted to warming up frozen pakoras. Don't eat here please. The service was horrible. The food took forever to arrive, the table was never cleared, & nobody came to check on our meal or to give the check.
This is an amazing place for food, ambience, taste & service. Md. Faruk Ahmed, the owner is phenomenal. He gives attention to each & every table which is commendable. Must visit this place. I visited here with family & it was worth coming. MUST VISIT FOR FINE DINING FOOD. I missed taking pictures of food but took pictures for Dessert. Overall amazing place.
Je suis allé chez Gandhi pour un repas de graduation. Les repas étaient délicieux. Il y a de bonnes portions. Les serveurs sont très gentils. Je reviendrai à coup sûr.
In Montreal for the weekend. Great find. Good food & great service. Farook, the owner was fantastic host. Would recommend it as a stop for lunch or dinne

Amazing restaurant - aroma of spices fills the air, tantalizing your senses & preparing you for an unforgettable culinary journey. Each dish is a masterpiece, bursting with authentic flavors & made with the freshest ingredients. Whether you're craving a flaky, mouth watering garlic naan or the creamy richness of butter chicken, every bite is a symphony of taste.
Malheureusement, ce restaurant est sur le déclin. L'ambiance est tranquille & plutôt agréable mais mais le service & surtout la cuisine ont régressé notablement. Dommage, on ira ailleurs désormais.
