Step into Restaurant Gandhi and the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal give way to the fragrant spices and the aromatic flavours of the Asian subcontinent. Traditional Indian music plays as you dine, providing a gentle serenade to accompany your meal.
Unlike most indian restaurants, you will feel like you're dining al fresco: soft light, bistro-style tables with crisp white lines, and the yellow walls with their window-like cubby holes recall a sunset over the Ganges half a world away. Gandhi engages all five senses to create a memorable dining experience. For those who prefer a take out, our team will be please to prepare your meal with the same touch of love!
Gandhi offers a warm, inviting Indian dining experience with aromatic, well-balanced dishes that showcase generous portions of tandoori specialties, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and biryani. The naan, especially garlic naan, is often praised as outstanding, with papadam and chutneys as a memorable start. The service is consistently attentive and friendly, with staff going the extra mile to ensure guests feel at home. The ambiance ranges from a calm, refined Old Montreal setting to a cozy, bustling vibe, with tasteful decor and comfortable linens. The vegetarian options are plentiful and delicious, and halal choices are noted. Some comments mention value for money and occasional longer waits during peak hours, but the overall sentiment highlights bold flavors, authenticity, and care in presentation. Frequent visitors describe Gandhi as a reliable favorite for family meals, celebrations, and casual dinners alike, with butter chicken and richly spiced curries inviting repeat visits.
We yorecently, Travelfamily.canada, visited Gandhi Restaurant in downtown Montreal, & it was a delightful experience! The customer service by Faruk Ahmed was on point, with friendly & attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, & we loved that there were halal options available. It's a cozy spot for a family meal with a wide selection to choose from. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in Montreal! Thank you, Gandhi Restaurant, for a great dining experience!
The entire experience was amazing! We live in Picton & this was our 1st visit to Montreal. Due to a referral from a friend we made this our 1st stop for dinner. I am so glad we did! We love Indian food & this is by far on the top of our list! I'm sure we will make the trip back to Montreal just to visit Restaurant Gandhi again! Enjoy!
I love this restaurant! My husband & I first came here on the recommendation of a neighbor, & now we eat here regularly. I can only speak to the vegetarian dishes, because that's what I mainly eat, but the vegetables are always fresh & perfectly seasoned. The sauces are delicious without being heavy. The service is excellent, & we are always greeted like old friends.
Chicken in the butter chicken dish was overcooked & dry, & the potatoes were undercooked so they were slightly crunchy. The samosas were undercooked & doughy. The place is cute, the servers were pleasant & didn't rush us at the end of the meal.
Service took forever between courses & when we had our main course it wasn't that tasty. I've been here before last summer & the food was excellent. Perhaps they change the chef or were having a bad day.
I've never had better Indian food in my life. Every sauce, accompaniment, detail was wonderful. The staff were helpful & attentive. The desserts were beautiful & tasty. Definitely plan to come back.

This was the perfect find for two English people from Birmingham. Excellent food, attentive service & the perfect atmosphere. It felt like a home from home, which wasn't surprising after we found out that the owner had once lived & worked on the Ladypool Road. Superb experience.
Being Indian, we wanted to eat some comfort food, & this restaurant did not disappoint. I visited this restaurant with my partner on a rainy day last month during our trip to Montreal, & we were in a bit of a rush, with only 50 minutes to dine. We informed the manager & staff about our time constraint before placing our order, & they assured us they would expedite everything, promising we'd be done within 40 minutes. Given how busy the restaurant was, we were skeptical. However, to our pleasant surprise, everything went smoothly! We ordered the Menu Combo for Two, & not only did the food arrive on time, but the quality exceeded our expectations. The masala chai, gulab jamun, & kheer were delicious, but the highlight for me was the naan-soft, warm, & fresh, just like I remember from India. Kudos to the staff for their excellent service. This was one of the most memorable meals I've had in Montreal, & I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!
This is a very good Indian restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxing & the tables nicely set. We enjoyed the beef somosas; so crispy & the dough was nice & light. Chicken korma & Naan were very good as well. Would go back.
