Review Summary

Express Indien - Indian earns high marks for butter chicken and naan, with many calling it the best Indian food in town. The menu is large with vegetarian options and a generously portioned thali that is nicely prepared and tasty, and prices are reasonable. Takeout and delivery are reliable, with food arriving hot and on time, and the dining room is clean and inviting with friendly service. Dishes such as grilled prawns, paneer with spinach, vegetable biryani and dal are described as excellent, although paneer quality and a veggie curry are occasionally noted as not optimal. Some visits mention longer waits and smaller portions compared to past visits, reflecting a few declines in quantity or consistency. Overall the reviews describe a flavorful, satisfying experience and a neighborhood staple, anchored by the standout butter chicken and strong overall quality.

We ordered the Butter Chicken Thali & Vegan Thali for delivery & it was excellent. The meal arrived hot & fresh, & looked appetizing. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly & the dal was flavourful & rich tasting even though it's really healthy. Dal tasted like it had simmered all day, to really let the flavours blend. Tandoor chicken was hot & tender with just the right amount of spice. The butter chicken was tender & delicious, with just the right amount of sauce. Spinach tofu is one of those dishes that might convert even spinach haters, or those who usually order spinach paneer. Not cheap, but great value, generous portions, more than enough for two people, & so much more nutritious than the same price spent on usual takeaway. Friendly service. Thank you!

I went to Express Indian on Somerled twice so far since moving to Montreal (one using public transport, once on foot). The food was good (the one time we actually got to eat the food we paid for). Here is my big issue: twice i went to this restaurant fully prepared with my own containers. You know, pollution & the current climate crisis in mind. the first time, i had plastic containers. the food came from the kitchen in my containers, FULLY WRAPPED IN TINFOIL. The next time, learning from the first encounter, i brought large-sized mason jars. They brought my jars back empty & sat them on the counter. Finally, after quite a long wait, they brought out two of their own, one-time-use ALUMINIUM take-out containers. The person then informed me (at that time, & not before bringing out this WASTE) that the openings of the jars were too narrow to be able to get the food inside. It is so disheartening as it is to be footprint-minded in a seemingly disposable world. But this kind of situation can be utterly crushing to someone trying hard to live without creating more waste. It's almost as if they are trying to make some sort of political statement by straight up refusing to use the containers i bring in with me (even though this would save them a bit of money - just use the containers for the next person)!
In the end, the food from their aluminium containers went EVERYWHERE in their plastic bags & in my backpack (unlike had it been in sealed mason jars) & my family & I did not even get to enjoy the food.
