El Pacifico is traditionally one of my favourite restaurants to spend my money at. The drinks are delicious, especially the Mexicana Mule. The Pirata quesadilla is phenomenal, & I recently tried the calamari & was very pleasantly surprised at its tenderness, which the waitress kindly confirmed for me before I ordered.
The many times that I & my friends have been there, we were impressed at the staffs genuine kindness. It's clear they work very hard.
Sadly, yesterday on September 4th, I had my first encounter with the owner. More on this below. He did not serve me, but did see me enjoying their delicious food as he stepped in & out of the establishment to serve other patrons. I was luckily served by one of the phenomenal regular waitresses who I have been served by in the past.
When it was time to pay, another waiter who seemed younger than my original waiter gave me the bill. I waited patiently with my tummy full for the card reader. The owner then proceeded to whisper to her, this young girl, to charge me 107.77 dollars. For context, I ordered a quesadilla, calamari & a Mexicana mule. No way on God's green earth could that amount to 107.77. Thankfully I checked the amount before I paid, since he whispered this command to the young girl, & I yelled out shocked'107.77!' I exclaimed. The young girl was bewildered immediately & took the card reader away immediately. She asked the owner'you told me 107.77' then he came up to me, & I asked him why would he do that? I told him what I ordered, & he pointed to the correct receipt. It was at this point that I began questioning his intention. & I told him, you saw me enjoying your food, I've come here many times before, why would you try & rip me off?
His hands were shaking & he didn't give me a valid explanation as to WHY he told HIS waitress, who clearly looks to him for guidance, to CHARGE ME 107 Canadian dollars when he KNEW that was NOT the price of my bill. It was a sour moment between us. Plus, to add insult to injury, I had been having some issues with my debit. When he finally corrected his own ill intent, my card didn't go through. I have been having issues with my debit card. The owner of this business then laughed under his breathe at me. So after trying to blindly overcharge me without reason, he tried to insinuate that I was broke. Not cool man.
I'm taking a break from this restaurant for the foreseeable future.
If I were to come back here, I hope to never run into the male owner. It's hard running a business, but integrity is invaluable. Never even received an apology by the way… or a discount or my meal, or a half hearted smile. Zilch. Yikes! Beware Hocheleaga. Check the card reader before you pay.
