Review Summary

Reviews consistently celebrate Douro for its warm, homey atmosphere and authentic Portuguese flavors, with amazing food and a superb wine list. The service is repeatedly praised as attentive and friendly, making guests feel welcomed from the moment of arrival. Dishes highlighted include arroz de marisco, sea bass, monk fish rice, octopus, croquettes de bacalhau, chouriço, and desserts like natas do ceu, with portions described as generous and good value. The restaurant is described as a true Portuguese experience outside Portugal, with décor and vibe that evoke Portugal and a menu that blends tradition with generous portions. Guests appreciate consistency over the years, with many noting that Douro remains a favorite and a must visit when in Montreal, and that the overall dining experience can be outstanding from starters to desserts. A few caveats mention occasional cutbacks after Covid and some variability in a few dishes, yet the overall sentiment remains highly positive and the establishment is frequently recommended.

Amazing food, service & hospitality in this little corner of Portugal in Montréal! I'm originally from Montréal but moved permanently to Portugal. Douro is the favourite restaurant of my family members in Montréal. My first time at Douro Restaurant was 10 years ago & it's still a must-go every time I visit the city. They have a great menu & selection of top Portuguese wines. Our recent family lunch was once again delicious… tomato & fresh cheese salad, mackerel, sea bass, paelha, creme caramel, leite creme & pears poached in Port wine. It's good to see a Portuguese restaurant done so well outside of Portugal.

What a Montreal treasure ! Having just returned from Portugal in September, we were thrilled to be introduced to this restaurant by friends. From the start, the service was friendly & helpful. We had the mixed tapas to start, & all 4 of us were entirely satisfied. The bread, olives & beans, & soft cheese accompaniment were quickly devoured. We chose the fish of the day (one fresh Icelandic cod & the other a branzino). Both fish were pan-fried in a light caper & butter, were delicious & moist, & came with mashed potatoes, & grilled vegetables. The men had the bitoque steak meal & the salted cod plate. The bitoque was amazingly tender with a sauce so reminiscent of those in Portugal. Dessert was fantastic carrot cake & the "heavenly dessert" (nata do céu), & with coffee, they were the perfect end to our meal. Prices were above normal but everything is fresh, plentiful, & delicious. It was our first time, but we are hoping to return again for more flavors of Portugal 🇵🇹.
