Chez Johnny delivers a focused menu centered on the quintessential pillars of Quebecois comfort food. The kitchen specializes in heavy, hand-pressed beef burgers served on toasted buns with classic garnishes. Thick-cut fries serve as the base for various poutine iterations featuring squeaky fresh cheese curds and rich, savory brown gravy. Portions emphasize volume and consistency to satisfy substantial appetites seeking hearty, traditional fare. The atmosphere remains utilitarian and straightforward, prioritizing efficient service over elaborate decor or complex culinary fusion. This establishment maintains a commitment to time-honored recipes that define the regional identity of local snack bars. Every plate prioritizes flavor intensity and structural integrity, ensuring that the heavy toppings remain balanced against the foundation of crispy potatoes and flame-grilled meat patties.
Chez Johnny is widely regarded as a charming, nostalgic diner known for its classic comfort food, particularly its club sandwiches, fries, and decadent desserts like the sugar cream cake. Most visitors praise the restaurant for its warm, efficient service and affordable prices, creating a welcoming atmosphere that keeps locals coming back. While many enjoy the vintage setting and overall experience, some feedback highlights inconsistencies, particularly regarding the quality of the poutine sauce, portions, and concerns over extra charges for basic sandwich toppings. Despite mixed opinions on specific menu items, the establishment remains a popular local staple for those seeking a quick and friendly meal.
It's been about 15 years since last time I was there. It was decent but found the menu kind of smallish (no kids nuggets, or small hamburgers ? what fast food place doesn't have something targetted for kids ? Was slighlty disappointed but most of all : no combo ? Exemple : hotdog + fries ??? ) . Service was meh at best. People were super kind WHEN we had service ... People working there were Absolute dream & so sweet, but never there serving, forgot to bring a plate, then forgot to bring drinks, Took the order wrong. To give an an idea, I received my plate 12 minutes before the rest of my family, the cook brought us the final plates instead of the service people ...it was disappointing.
Food was fairly delicious tho, hot, fresh, fairly priced.
The atmosphere is roughly as I remembered it. It was sweet & very welcoming even tho it's such a small dinner ! I won't say anything bad about that nor presentation as It was smelling fresh, great, it wasn't an oven inside, the temperature was fine even tho it was really hot outside, it was cozy & relaxing, clean everywhere my eyes laid on !
Overall good experience but got disappointed by the lack of service structure & lack of kids menu item. Beside that, a good little dinner.

Ordered a classic poutine & an all dressed burger. I'll be honest, the 4+ stars set up high expectations but both plates were below average. Poutine sauce was extremely thin/watered down, it would just run off the fries & cheese. The gravy had an odd taste as well. The hamburger was just OK, felt like it could have more filling for an all dressed burger, the patty was the only decent thing. Service & atmosphere were great though, I just wish the food was better, I left disappointed.
C'est bon!! Casse croute qui existe depuis quelques décennies, les poutines, les frites, hamburger & club sandwich, mes préférés de tous les casse-croûte de la région 😄👍
Probably the weirdest & healthiest hamburger I've ever had. Amazing. Don't know what mad scientist came up with this monster of a hamburger but if it was to takeover America the health crisis would solve itself in a few weeks. Wow! Wow! Wow! Edit: wife ordered the chocolate cake. Very moist & excellent.
Fries like they used to taste in the old days. Generous portions delicious food. The family of staff are always friendly & efficient. I love to add a bit of ketchup & vinegar to my poutine But that's just me. Club sandwiches are amazing hamburgers also delicious.
