Really enjoyed it, & spicy & non spicy options, as well as meat & veggie ones, were plentiful! Look forward to coming back!
Typical Chinese, but all dishes all well executed & tasty, my go to Chinese
I'm not sure why people love this place. The chicken was very average, the rice was dry & tasteless. Not going back. & it is quite pricy compared to other great chinese places in Montreal.
Awesome Chinese restaurant situated in a basement with cuisine mostly revolving around Szechuan, with some twists. The menu has lots of options & the pricing is great considering the very shareable portion sizes. Service is excellent as well. One of our dishes came out a bit later than the rest of the food but a near flawless dining experience otherwise.
We tried the tripe, the ginger chicken & the dumplings. They were all great. The ice cream mochi & the caramelized bananas were also good.
The staff was helpful & attentive.
PSA don't schedule take out from here. I did it, & the app said it was ready to pick up, but when I went to pick it up, they said they didn't get the order. So I had to wait an extra 20 min for them to make my food on the spot. Waiter was unapologetic & just told me to not scheduling takeout again. The food also leaked & got on my bag & clothes
I may have reviewed this place before but in case I'm stoned:
Chez Chilli is the best chinese I've had in this city by a wide margin. Only La Perle comes close.
I've tried: the laziji, the hong shao rou, salt n pepper porchops, fish stew, yu xiang eggplant, several noodle plates, general tao, salt n spicy chicken, cumin squid, beef & lamb, the spicy beef stew, caramelized shortrib, yang zhou fried rice, & a few others I can't remember. Every single one of these dishes is top notch.
The service is great too. They always reseat us when our orders are huge, they explain the dishes very well in case you have doubts, & they're very friendly.
I'll never stop singing their praises, best chinese you can get, hands down.
Really wanted to rate this a five star but dishes that were supposed to have spicy peppers had none. No level of spice in a restaurant that is supposed to specialize in Hunan or Schezuan cuisine. Food was tasty but just now what I was expecting. Maybe it is served to a level of heat suited for Montreal taste?
I used to come here quite often & always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill lately. The waitress seemed upset just because we didn't leave a large tip, & she even took our water away before we finished eating - that felt very rude & unprofessional.
After checking other Google reviews, I realized that many people have complained about the same issue - staff showing bad attitudes over tips - so it's clearly not just us.
To be fair, there was one shorter male server who was very polite & professional. He was respectful & kind, which I really appreciated.
However, during our meal, we could hear rats running in the ceiling above us, which was honestly terrifying. I was worried one might fall down.
This used to be one of my favorite places, but with the poor service, ongoing tip-related attitude issues, & hygiene concerns, I don't think I'll be coming back until serious improvements are made.
The food was delicious. We ordered eggplant with pork & black bean sauce & braised pork belly. Both dishes were aromatic & very flavorful. Would definitely come back again.
Must try dish - Fish in chilli sauce. This is the best dish ever & anyone who visits us, we make sure we take them to this place & everyone always loves this dish!
General Tao's chicken is very authentic & the fried rice is delicious?
