About us

Casa Galicia has been a staple of Spanish cuisine in Montreal since 1977. Founded by Laurentino Oliveira and still proudly family-run, the tradition continues today with Jorge Oliveira and David Oliveira at the helm.

Recognized as one of the best Spanish restaurants in North America, Casa Galicia specializes in authentic Galician cuisine, offering classic dishes like paella, zarzuela, and a variety of regional specialties. Guests can pair their meals with a refreshing pitcher of sangria considered among the best in Montreal, or explore the restaurant’s unique wine cellar, featuring reserve wines from Spain’s most prestigious winemaking regions.

The warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and distinctive décor make every visit memorable. On weekends, the experience is elevated with live flamenco performances, including a professional Spanish guitarist, bringing a touch of Spain’s vibrant culture to the heart of the city.

I am very satisfied with my evening at Casa Galicia. We went on a Friday evening at around 9pm & there was a flamenco duo (male guitarist / female dancer) that performed really well. We had the house Sangría & it was probably the best sangría I've ever had. For appetizer I had the Gazpacho Andaluz & it was well made. A friend & I shared the Valenciana Discovery Menu (easily feeds 3 or even 4) & it was so delicious. From the appetizer tray, the croquetas de bacalao were my favorite & the choizo was a close second place. The Paella Valenciana was very rich, generous, well made, & delicious. It's the best paella I've had in Montreal; better than the ones I had in Barroco, Douro & Solmar. I was too full for dessert.
The only complaint that I have is that the paella wasn't made with what I'd consider to be the correct grain of rice: "bomba", "Calasparra" or (though not referred) "Arborio". The flavor was definitely there, & I'd eat it again anytime; I just would have loved to have that "al dente" texture that you get when you use the right grain. The second challenge is parking, but that's just Montral; take a cab.

Bottomline: I will definitely be back, & so should you. Check their website to see the when the next flamenco performance will be & brace yourself for the whole package of great food & show.
