If I had a spoon at my work maybe just maybe i could have enjoyed it still but sadly i didnt. Had to let it melt so i could drink it without a straw. Also ordered fries & asked for ketchup in the notes but received none. Kind of irritating since these two things are not that hard to remember & would have made my ordering experience much more positive.View more
My experience with Captain B in Montreal, particularly regarding their burger, was far from satisfying. As someone who appreciates a good burger, I had high hopes when I decided to try theirs. However, the reality did not live up to my expectations. First & foremost, the burger took quite a while to be served. I understand that good food takes time, but the extended wait left me eager & hungry, raising my expectations even higher. Unfortunately, when the burger arrived, it was far from the mouthwatering delight I had anticipated. Let's begin with the patty itself. It was overcooked & dry, which was a significant disappointment. The exterior had a charred, tough texture that made it difficult to enjoy. Overcooking not only resulted in a lack of juiciness but also impacted the flavor, as it was devoid of the succulent, beefy taste one would expect from a quality burger. Moving on to the bun, it was a letdown as well. It was overly toasted & slightly burned, giving it a bitter aftertaste that clashed with the other ingredients. The bun is meant to be a vessel that complements the patty, but in this case, it seemed like an afterthought. It lacked the softness & freshness that could have balanced the dryness of the patty. Now, let's talk about the toppings. The lettuce & tomato were wilted & far from fresh. The lettuce was limp & lacked that crisp, green crunch that adds vibrancy to a burger. The tomato was tasteless, indicating that it was not at the peak of ripeness when used. The onions were also inadequately sliced, making the burger's construction less than ideal. The cheese, typically a highlight of a burger, was barely noticeable in terms of flavor. It didn't melt properly & was more like a plasticky afterthought than a creamy, savory complement to the patty. A well-melted cheese can contribute significantly to the overall enjoyment of a burger, but in this case, it missed the mark. The condiments were uninspiring as well. The ketchup & mayonnaise seemed like generic, store-bought varieties. A more unique & flavorful sauce could have compensated for the other shortcomings, but it was absent here. A quality burger often relies on the harmony of its components, & in this case, the lackluster toppings & condiments added to the disappointment. To make matters worse, the burger was served with a side of fries that were lukewarm & lacked the crispy exterior & fluffy interior that make fries so enjoyable. It felt like they had been sitting around for a while before being served. Price-wise, the burger at Captain B was on the higher side, & it didn't match the quality one would expect at that price point. I left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied & let down by what should have been a simple yet delicious dish. In conclusion, my experience with Captain B's burger in Montreal was disappointing. The overcooked patty, burnt bun, lackluster toppings, & mediocre condiments all contributed to a subpar burger. For the price, I expected a much better culinary experience. I hope that Captain B takes a closer look at the quality & preparation of their burgers to match the reputation they've built in other areas of their menu. As it stands, I wouldn't recommend their burger to fellow food enthusiasts seeking a memorable burger experience in Montreal. Constructive criticism.View more

After a really terrible experience with a burger joint over in Lachine tonight, I just had to take a moment to pop by, & give some overdue props to Captain B. I'm new to living in the NDG area, & so far, these guys provide the most affordable, real beef burgers in my Uber eats delivery range. The fries don't match the menu's photos, but there's plenty of them, & they'll do the trick, for the quality of the burger you'll recieve (fwiw, I'm sure the fries are far better picked up fresh, at the restaurant's locale). At just $2 extra, paying for a double burger is worth every penny- it's a bargain as far as I'm concerned. These are definitely without a doubt, real, hand-made beef patties, perfectly cooked & nicely, neatly presented. Delicious, juicy flavour, & fresh ingredients, it's an uncomplicated no-brainer, & a favoured, beloved go-to among my delivery food repertoire, in my new hood. Comfort-food quality, with a greasy spoon vibe in its delivery, the simplicity of their menu selection & use of real, basic, quality ingredients, makes Captain B a charming, surprising & unassuming gem among competing burger joints. I can always expect a reliable & consistent performance & effort from the 'crew on-board at Captain Bs, & I'll continue to give them my business, anytime I'm craving a great burger, & I am not in the mood to be experimental, or potentially disappointed (like I was earlier tonight, by Obvious Burger in Lachine). My very best compliments to you all, keep up the excellent work- never change (except- maybe swap out those shoestring fries, for the crinkle cuts pictured). I will definitely be a loyal regular to this establishment, so long as it's accessible to me. PS: do not hesitate to try Captain B's answer to the Big Mac! It can honestly only be described, as the the MOST competent & the LEAST messy version of a Big Mac ever executed. They basically took McDonald's signature burger, & MASTERED it, it's such a big flex for a comparatively much smaller fast food establishment, & I just love how ballsy of a move that is! Loving & adoring it, cheers, guys ?View more
