Canal Lounge Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
CaféBarGreat selection of cocktails
An air of Paris or Amsterdam in Montreal? You will soon believe that you are in Europe going on first floating coffee in town, the Canal Lounge, located close to the Atwater Market. Make yourself comfortable in a 45 years old boat, but certainly fresh and colorful design, the cozy atmosphere and inimitable view. At night, coffee becomes a lounge where music and lights awakens the boat.

Review Summary

Canal Lounge is described as a charming canal-side spot with a romantic vibe and a small, distinctive setup that adds to its appeal. The setting on a boat or terrace offers great canal views and sunsets, making the atmosphere a key part of the experience. Drinks are a highlight, with cocktails praised for being well made and refreshing, and light bites like olives or chips noted, while the menu is generally described as compact but adequate. Service receives mixed feedback, ranging from quick and friendly to slower with longer waits. Prices are sometimes called reasonable and other times a bit high, depending on the item. The decor, fresh flowers, and plants contribute to a cozy, unique vibe that suits a date or a casual gathering, especially in warm weather. Overall, Canal Lounge stands out for its ambiance and setting on the canal, even if the food menu is not extensive.

This place & the concept are really nice! We were able to seat on top of the boat & the view is great. The drinks are good & even tjough their menu isn't big it's good. The staff was also really kind & fast. Will definitely go back!

Friendly service. Great view of the Canal, especially when you're outside. We were lucky to get the front to ourselves. Our red wine was warm, & the selection of snacks & drinks were pretty basic. Basically come for the experience but maybe just for one glass.

This bar is simply stunning. The venue is a repurposed boat with a gutted inside to offer ample seating. They have a dozen or so tables along both sides & a bathroom at the back of the boat near the bar. When you're sitting down, you can feel the boat swaying back & forth. You can also open the windows & say hi to people passing by on paddle boats. This bar has two outdoor seating areas; one at the front, which can be challenging to get to as you need to swing around the side of the opening into the bar, & another one at the back, up a ladder. Personally, I preferred the front outdoor seating area, as it offers a gorgeous view of the canal & has gorgeous flowers to admire. Be aware that you are exposed to the elements outside of the boat & it can get quite chilly. The chairs are also not affixed to the boat, so one slip & you might end up in the canal. The rear outdoor seating is just a set of cushions in a wooden box, but it feels a lot more secure. The outdoor seating areas fill up immensely quickly, so you have to be lucky to get one, but the other tables indoors are gorgeous as well. I ordered La Bouee, which was a delicious drink, & a Perfect Storm, which I enjoyed mixing to my taste. My friend ordered a Malibu Seabreeze & said it was absolutely delicious. We also got chips to share, but I thought at $7 it was quite overpriced. Do note this bar has a 2 hour limit on stays, but this wasn't a problem in my experience. We weren't asked to leave, but also went on a weekday when the bar was nearly entirely empty. Keep it in mind if there's a line waiting on the pier.
