Update 3: eat at the place. There is big parking across the street & the food is great when fresh.
Update 2: I don't know what happened but this is not the same place. There is no taste
Update: Tried chicken sandwich & Ferrero rocher cake next day & it was disappointing. The chicken was missing taste & the cake was gummy & chewy.
First time: Very tasty Italian sandwiches & desserts. I tried steak sandwich with fries that are served with chipotle mayo, Oreo cake & tiramisu. All tasty & at reasonable prices.
I live in Laval & have a Milano's on Curé-Labelle near me. Although I had heard many good things about it, I had never actually tried it. This weekend, while I was in Saint-Léonard for a pickup, I noticed there was a Milano's nearby, so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to see what all the hype was about.
I'm a sandwich guy-or, as they say SanGwich . I've had great sandwiches from well-known places throughout Montreal, Laval, & especially Rome, where there are some fantastic sandwich shops. If you're interested, check out some of my other reviews.
I was pleased with my experience here. Everything tasted fresh, from the bread to the ingredients. Service was quick, & while the restaurant wasn't packed, it had a healthy crowd for a Saturday around 1:00 p.m., which is usually a good sign.
I ordered the 7-inch Milano Special, which was good. The bread wasn't toasted, but it was extremely fresh, & you could really taste both the steak & the vegetables. That said, my wife ordered the steak sub, & we both agreed that it was actually the better sandwich of the two.
We paired our meal with a Brio & finished with a cannoli for dessert. The total came to about $35, which we felt was money well spent.
Overall, this is a great place to grab a sandwich if you appreciate fresh ingredients & quality bread. After trying the original Saint-Léonard location, I'm definitely looking forward to visiting the Laval location as well.
Its been nearly 15-20 years since I used to frequent Milano's. It used to be much smaller & run down. Kind of a greasy spoon type of place that made the best sandwiches & salads. Its a lot different now. Its been redone, doubled in size & has a modern cafe bistro vibe. I ordered the 7' chicken cutlet sandwich. The smaller chicken salad, an aranciata & cappucino. The bill with tip was $40. The sandwich was good, but small. The chicken cutlet & toppings much thinner than I remember. The salad also okay. The chicken a bit dry & the dressing not as good as I remember. It needed also salt, which was not provided on the tables. Everything tasted fresh. The coffee was amazing. I should have asked for chocolate on top of my cap. Very clean inside the resto but the bathroom was not. All in all, I enjoyed my meal. It was a blast from the past with a bit of nostalgia mixed with some disappointments.
Café Milano's is such a gem! This charming Italian café has the best subs ever-I've been coming here for years, & they never disappoint. I always tell my friends about it because everyone needs to try it at least once! This place is extra special to me because it's where my boyfriend & I had our first date. Since then, it's become my go-to spot, & I'm always excited to come back. The food is fresh & delicious, the atmosphere is warm & inviting, & the staff are so friendly. If you're looking for amazing Italian subs & a cozy spot to enjoy them, Café Milano's is the place to be. Highly recommend!
