Their prices in my opinion are a little higher than it should be but still pretty reasonable. The coffee is really good & the menu offers a wide variety. The service is friendly & quick but there have been times where they were a bit slow (maybe because we were a group of younger people but still no excuse). The place has a really nice vibe & their decor is lovely.
Great dining experience. The service was friendly, food was fresh & pricing was very reasonable. The venue is absolutely stunning. Definitely going to visit again.
We had a great meal here with 3 friends. Everyone's meals looked great - & the meals I tasted tasted great. Great service. Would go back again & again.
Came by & bought the boccocini. Both my friend & I thought our sandwiches were bland & very basic for 16$. Comparable to IGA sandwich with better ingredients. My friend's smoked turkey sandwich didn't have any smoked flavour. My sandwich barely had an eggplant & it didn't have any flavour at that. Also wasn't hot, clearly panini'd but everything is room temperature. Portion is on the smaller side but acceptable. Service was fine, girl at the front didn't acknowledge us when we walked in idk just weird not to greet people when they walk in. Nice atmosphere though, I'm assuming their other food is better than the sandwiches.
Tucked into Westmount like a cherished heirloom, Cafe Gentile served up a Mother's Day brunch that felt more like a warm hug from someone who smells faintly of espresso & nostalgia.
From the moment we walked in, the ambiance charmed us-banquettes like Nonna's living room sofas, tables dressed in soft green marble, & the comforting chaos of a bustling café filled with families, laughter, & that beautiful din of clinking plates & happy forks. It didn't feel like a restaurant; it felt like home, if your home had professional chefs & an endless supply of pistachios.
My husband's meal was a journey in texture & decadence:
A beet salad that was earthy & fresh,
Followed by indulgent French toast paired with bacon, a rich veal sausage crowned with a sunny-side egg,
& a final act of showy genius-a brioche stuffed with pistachio gelato & finished with pistachio crumb. I briefly considered tackling him for a bite.
I started with delicate smoked salmon avocado crostini, perfectly balanced & bright. Then came the Lobster Benedetto-a lavish, buttery twist on the classic Benedict. I closed with a thick, fluffy pancake, floating in a sweet, lightly creamy sauce that I may or may not have considered licking off the plate. (It was Mother's Day. I get a pass.)
Service was friendly & well-timed-no hovering, no disappearing acts. Just the kind of smooth professionalism that lets you actually enjoy the food & the moment.
Cafe Gentile doesn't just feed you-it envelops you in Italian comfort, sprinkles pistachios on your emotions, & sends you home blissfully full. Five stars, & one extra perfectly drawn espresso in my heart.
110% top notch experience 👌🏼💪🏻🙏🏼 with bonus points
First of all the staff are all A1! Great service from start to finish. The hosts, servers, management are all super polite, friendly, hospitable & helpful.
They work like a synchronized Olympic serving team without being pushy or in your face.
Can't sing enough praise for the staff!
The food?
Freaking fantastic always!
Their pastas, pizzas & apparently brunch (we went for the Mother's Day brunch special today) is all stellar & authentic.
Today we had a lobster, egg, hollandaise deliciousness
& a boogie take on a bacon, sausage, egg, French toast plate that was mind blowing.
The starters were delicious as well
A beat salad & smoked salmon, avocado toast
Will be back again & again for this fantastic experience
Good job guys! 👌🏼🫶🏼💪🏻🙏🏼
Excellent venue for 50 or so people. Food was excellent, staff on top of their game, super friendly. Highly recommend.
Olivia is amazing & Anna so friendly. Love the food, the friendliness the ambiance- it's my go to place!!
Came here for a friend's birthday, & it was perfect! We shared the breakfast croissant sandwich & the ricotta crostini-both were packed with flavor. I especially loved the combination of ricotta, goat cheese, & fig jam on the crostini. That said, $16 for just a piece of toast felt a bit steep. We also shared the pancakes with the group. The orange zest sauce was absolutely delicious, though the texture of the pancakes was a little dry. Thankfully, there was plenty of maple syrup to make up for it. The atmosphere was really pleasant, & I'd love to come back to try their lunch menu.
Solid spot to stop in for a bite. First time being here & will be back next time I'm in Montreal. Had the chicken cutlet sandwich with fries, was good. Service was great but found the seating tight.
Been to Gentile for several years, even when I worked near Chabanel. The food is always delicious with great presentation. Their rosé sauce & fresh pasta is one of the best in the city, as is their margherita pizza. This visit had some amazing sandwiches, the classic chicken cutlet & the Caesar chicken wrap. So fresh & delicious. But don't forget to wash it all down with their savoury fries, the perfect compliment to any dish on their menu! Too full this time for dessert, but I highly recommend their cannolis & tiramisu. You will definitely need a reservation for Friday or Saturday nights!
I was pleasantly surprised by Cafe Gentile. The menu is pretty well diversified, with plenty of homemade pasta dishes available, along with a great drink selection. The Peach Me Up was notably delightful. Gnocchi was a real treat, & the Sexy Fries were to die for. Service was good too. There is only one issue... The prices are a little out of control. I'm well aware that eating out costs more than it used to, & I have no qualms dropping good money on a good dinner. Our dinner was $127 before tip, with two mains, fries, a mocktail, & two desserts. I have had more economical meals that were arguably better. $30 or more for a plate of pasta is a bit too rich for my tastes (it was good, don't get me wrong). That may not be the case for everyone, but it's why I took off one star.
Ice tea is always crisp & I highly recommend it. Their sandwiches & pasta are also good. This cafe has a great location with a great design. However, the fries were not that good.
I came here with my friend for lunch yesterday & I got the Arugula Sandwich with grilled chicken. It was so dry, it said it came with baldamic glaze & mayo? though there was barely any mayo. The chicken was really dry, I had to ask for extra mayo & even then the sandwhich was dry. Next time go hard on the mayo, it will be much more enjoyable.
Food is always good here. Especially the homemade ice tea lemonade. Outdoor sitting can be quite noisy due to cars passing by. Service are friendly but do need to wave them down here & there.
Recently, I went to Cafe Gentile for dinner service. I go for lunch fairly often, but it's been years since i've been there for dinner, & something has changed in the kitchen. I was honestly disappointed in the quality & flavor of the food. For the high price (200$ for 2 people), I expected more. We shared 3 appetizers + 2 pasta dishes as the main dish. Every dish except for the meatball entree was mediocre. The tomato sauce in the grilled squid was acidic & tasted like it just came out of the can. The 21$ Argula salad had a bunch of yellow, wilted leaves, like 2 tomatoes & 3 shavings of parm. & the pesto burrata pasta portion was TINY, lukewarm, & barely had any burrata on it. & it lacked a depth of flavor for 34$. It was really underwhelming. The service was very friendly, but SO slow even though it was early dinner service (like 6pm) & it wasn't even busy. After our food was served, the server never came to check on us once. We had to waive him down twice to ask for bread & to clear our plates & for the bills. The only redeeming quality this restaurant has at the moment is the atmosphere. The decor is trendy & the vibe is nice.
This restaurant is a local favourite of ours. We love sitting in the glassed in porch area 3 seasons of the year, love the food, & the inside is very cute, with nice leather benches, muted lighting, & reflective surfaces that give it a great vibe. They also have the best pistachio gelato of anywhere, & with the soft Sicilian biscotti on top, it's to die for, & you can get it to go if you're just strolling by. We reserved the inside restaurant for a function Saturday afternoon for 28 people & it went absolutely great. There were delicious appetizers (arancini, focaccia pizza, caprese skewers), great first course served family style (loved especially the endive radicchio salad & the fried calamari!) & great second courses with eggplant parmigiana, grilled branzino & vegetables, meatballs, sausage cavatelli) & for dessert our favourite gelato & biscotti. The service was great, plates cleared promptly & fresh ones brought, drinks filled, & it was a great atmosphere. We loved having the whole place so we could switch between tables & talk to each other without bothering other diners. Really, really happy with the experience! Totally recommend!
The place is nice & connected to the cafe/resto next door. In general, the food is good. Portions are on the small side & the food is expensive for what you get. I took the more expensive fries & they lacked taste & seasoning. I don't see the justification of a $21 simple margherita pizza. I also tried another pizza & it was ok.
Had a great time while celebrating a birthday. Their Sunday brunch menu was delicious & Phil catered to all our needs. Staff was friendly & service was great!
Had a birthday with a group of girlfriends & we had such an amazing time!! We had their brand new group menu & all the food was outstanding. Service was really professional & everyone was friendly! Amazing experience overall ~
