Café Cherrier is a Montreal institution that delivers classic French bistro fare with a Parisian feel, praised for consistently good food, attentive service, and a warm, refined atmosphere, especially on the welcoming terrace or at the bar. Highlights include standout dishes like onion soup, steak tartare, ribeye, eggs Benedict, gravlax, and a reliable brunch, all offered at a fair to reasonable price given the quality. Some reviews note occasional menu item unavailability, slower service at times, noise in the dining room, and price increases that affect value, yet most guests leave impressed and eager to return for the ambiance, the staff's friendliness, and the chance to linger over dessert and conversation. Overall, it remains a beloved go-to for lunch, brunch, or dinner with a consistently high standard and a touch of Paris on Saint Denis.
I sat at the bar & the bartender was attentive. The beef tartare & the black pudding were flavourful, great recommendation of the floating island to end the course.
I have been going to Café Cherrier for over 20 years & have always loved it.
I do realize that all restaurants are trying to recoup lost profits & are posting higher prices, but I find the value & quality that were always part of Café Cherrier are not there at the moment. My wife & I both love the fausse-coque, especially in the summer months. Was it outstanding, sadly NO. There was very little hollandaise sauce, a slight dribble over the top, at best. One egg was cooked just right & the other egg was overcooked. There was a skimpy portion of potatoes. For $65 I expect much better. We have been twice in the last month & will wait before we come back.
