Overall, Café Cherrier emerges as a Montreal institution that consistently delivers classic French bistro fare with generous portions, a warm Parisian vibe, and attentive service. The menu is praised for reliable staples like onion soup, gravlax, onglet de boeuf, gigot d'agneau, ris de veau, and steak tartare, with brunch and desserts such as eggs Benedict and tarte tatin earning frequent compliments, and the terrace is often highlighted as a superb setting for al fresco meals. Prices are considered reasonable for the quality by many, though a few reviews note that they have risen and some call portions or value not ideal at times. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and professional, with staff remembered for their attentiveness, yet some experiences mention slower pacing or occasional missteps in busy rooms or in wine recommendations. The atmosphere is described as convivial, intimate, and often lively, sometimes noisy, but with a consistent level of comfort and charm that keeps diners returning. Taken together, the reviews suggest a dependable, well loved bistro that balances tradition and quality, with room for improvement in noise control and consistency.

We go to Montreal a couple of times a year & always have at least one dinner here. Our favorite dishes include the salade frisee, blood sausage w/ apples, the fish soup, the house special ribeye. But as much as the food we love the casual, very French atmosphere & the friendly but attentive service from waiters like Bernard. Just close your eyes & listen to the happy chatter, proof of a good restaurant.
