Such a cute little cafe by the Convention Centre & Chinatown. Love the retro vibes.
You place your order at the front & if you're dining in, you can grab a seat at the back & they will bring out your order to you.
I got the matcha latte & the egg shiopan. The matcha latte was nice & creamy - very smooth. The egg shiopan was also delicious! A great little breakfast. :)
The place is trendy, clean & changing.
The corn & cheese shio is good, but I didn't expect it to be spicy! I feel the spices hid the taste of the corn & cheese. Also the strawberry shortcake tasted good, but not special. The miso chocolate cookie was good, although I didn't quite taste the miso?
I'm happy to have a place with shio pan & Gyokuro tea.
I had a really good time at this café. The coffee was fresh & rich. Also, what stood out to me was how lovely the interior was, & the staff were friendly & welcoming. The only downside was that shio pan could have been a little flakier. That said, I really enjoyed my time here, & I'll definitely be back!
Was visiting Montreal & noticed this coffee shop close to where I was staying. I ordered a matcha latte with seasonal fruit, shiopan (salt bread) & a roll cake slice. Roll cake was my favourite & shio pan is also decent. The matcha flavour would be better if it had a richer matcha taste & the fruit flavouring in the matcha would be better if it was a lighter puree to mix because it kind of sat at the bottom even when I mixed it very well.
I wanted to sit in to eat as I was meeting friends there but everything was given to me in take out boxes & take out cup. I didn't mention if I was taking out or staying in since I wasn't asked but maybe I should have mentioned it myself? Not sure what happened there.
Overall, I still enjoyed it & I recommend sitting in for the ambience if you can!
It's a nice addition to the Quartier Chinois. The place is spacious, plenty of seating, & cozy. There's a lot on offer on the menu, & it's all very good. I had tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), tsukemono (Japanese pickles) & flan at the café, which were all delicious! Loved the slight wasabi hint on the pickles. Also had an iced latte & it was really good, though maybe a little small for the price. I bought a shio pan (salt bread) to go & that was the only thing I didn't love. It was dry & not very tasty compared to other salt breads I've had. Still I recommend this café as everything else was fantastic.
Very beautiful decor, but unfortunately, that's it. To say the staff was unfriendly wouldn't be fair, because they greeted us with smiles. But it still felt like there was a lack of professionalism with the service. Ex. The water tank was completely empty so I asked for water. They didn't apologize about the empty tank, & just took the glasses from me & poured tap water in. I don't even know if they tried filling up the tank after either. The food in the display cabinet looked pretty wilted even though it was only 10:40 am, & the shiopan was weirdly very salty. The bun was warm, but the ham cheese filling was cold? Finally, the side tables were also uncomfortable to sit at, because the table feet are right where your feet are positioned. So there was no flat surface I could put my feet on. It's a shame, because a nice cafe in the area would have really brighten up Chinatown.
Went for Solo Cafe spot. Refreshing Matcha Tonic Yuzu with the Egg Salad Shiopan.
The store also have more food options & dessert, definitely comeback for the Flan 🍮
Good matcha, i asked for it with vanilla syrup but i realized there was no vanilla in it.. but it still tasted good,Shiopan tasted okay.. i would to come back to try there Flan & Cake rolls.
Unfortunately, the service was a bit disappointing during my visit today. The staff seemed more focused on chatting about their weekend than paying attention to customers. My shio pan order was forgotten, & after about 10 minutes, I noticed the server go to the kitchen to check on it, only to realize it hadn't been started. Thankfully, the chef prepared it right away. I also noticed another table whose shio pan order appeared to have been forgotten as well.
As for the food, I enjoyed the flavours of the shio pan. The corn rib topping was tasty, but the portion felt small - one piece wasn't quite enough, & a second would have made the dish feel more complete. There was also a bit too much sauce, which made the bread quite soggy by the time I was halfway through eating it.
Overall, the flavours were there, but both the service & execution could use some refinement.
