un super mardi soir pour les vingt ans de ma fille! Super bouffe, service hyper convivial (si vous avez un service pingouin c'est pas pour vous!) . À refaire
Ordered the calamari to start. Rubbery & overcooked. Extremely oily. 80% batter, garnished with batter pieces. Just taste like oil.... This actually made me feel icky & couldnt enjoy the main as much as I wanted to.
For mains, we both had the duck. The duck would've been SO GOOD but the whole meal was just over-salted. The sprouts weren't just charcoaled, they were cremated but still hard? The rest was pretty good. Such a shame. We were asked at the end how it was & we were honest & said it was not great & way too salty. The server said she would notify the chef. No effort was made to rectify our experience. Basically an'oh well' which cost us over £100.
Portion size was good
One server was nice & let us taste some wine before ordering some.
Nice aesthetic.
If you are looking for a cozy & warm dinner this is truly the perfect spot. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection seasoned simply but very flavorful. The burrata salad was so delicious & the creme brulee was as to die for.
The owner has the most buttery warm energy & it makes the place so special. We will be back many times more I'm sure.
Merci!
We first heard about Bungalow on Mount Royal thanks to the TV show Coup de Food. Clearly, we weren't the only ones - the place was packed! Even so, we were seated almost immediately at a nice table in the center of the restaurant, right in the heart of the action. The staff mentioned that the owners were pleasantly surprised by the surge in clientele following the show's broadcast.
The cuisine is described as inventive, & it truly is. While the summer terrace brings a few more'traditional' menu items (fried calamari, various tartares), we chose the more adventurous side of the menu & were very glad we did.
We started with the octopus appetizer, served over crispy smashed fingerling potatoes with a spiced butter & yuzu sour cream sauce - absolutely amazing. For mains, my wife enjoyed the duck magret, paired beautifully with braised Brussels sprouts, pepper sauce, & cauliflower purée, while I had the dorade royale (Mediterranean sea bream), served with a creamy mushroom & leek risotto in a white wine cream with basil. Both dishes were perfectly executed.
The wines were equally enjoyable: we began with a sparkling Cava, then moved on to a crisp Chablis 2022, Séguinot-Bordet for my wife & a robust Morgon La Chanaise 2023 for me. We ended on a high note, sharing a mousse au chocolat with hazelnut praline that was as indulgent as it was memorable.
The restaurant was lively (yes, a bit noisy), but the food, service, & atmosphere more than made up for it. Overall, an amazing dining experience - inventive cuisine, warm service, & a buzzing ambiance
Food could be better. My calamari was bland (I had to ask for salt & pepper) & the batter was too thick. The squid was soft though. Oysters were yummy (with caviar), very decently priced. Carbonara was quite creamy & tasty, although heavy. I asked our server if the wines by the glass were organic, natural, or biodynamic but he didn't know (& I was under the impression that this place heavily markets'organic, natural, & biodynamic wines' so I was surprised that the server didn't have an idea). He suggested a Grenache/Pinot Noir mixed blend that was medium body & quite easy to drink, & that was nice. Noise level in the restaurant was high; I had to speak loudly with my friend to have a conversation. I'll probably give this place another shot & order other dishes to give them a second chance.
