The Holder brothers welcome you to their beautiful Brasserie Bernard for a pleasant evening or a friendly lunch. This place has become a classic on Bernard Street in the beautiful Outremont district; the neighbourhood’s charm contributes greatly to the charm of the restaurant. Try their fine but unpretentious European cuisine, in a warm, elegant and vibrant atmosphere
Overall Brasserie Bernard earns praise for its warm Parisian brasserie vibe, comfortable and spacious setting, attentive and friendly service, and a varied menu that delivers well executed classics such as moules frites, onion soup, ravioli, duck confit and steak frites, with desserts like pavlova and pudding chomeur also mentioned; the ambiance and wine list are frequently highlighted and the place is described as lively yet suitable for couples, groups or special occasions, though a few reviews note noise levels and occasional slower service when busy and a few dishes that lack salt balance or are priced high for the portion; many guests say they would return, recommend Brasserie Bernard, and consider it a top French bistro experience in Montreal
The manager was on top of his game but had no backup whatsoever. He got the heater working outside, moved our table so we were more comfortable, took our wine order. Our server was overwhelmed & probably untrained. We waited an exceptionally long time for our server to take our order. The food was fair at best. It's been awhile since we were at BB due to Covid etc but I remember the French fries as being fresh cut potatoes & over the top yummy. These were the same as macdonalds. The salmon tartare was fresh but lacked any type of seasoning. It was just cubed salmon plated with a few herbs. The salad we ordered as an app was delicious. The steak tartare was very good as were the mussels. Over all we would rate it as a 21/2-3. But again the manager did go out of his way.
