The Holder brothers welcome you to their beautiful Brasserie Bernard for a pleasant evening or a friendly lunch. This place has become a classic on Bernard Street in the beautiful Outremont district; the neighbourhood’s charm contributes greatly to the charm of the restaurant. Try their fine but unpretentious European cuisine, in a warm, elegant and vibrant atmosphere
Overall Brasserie Bernard earns praise for its warm Parisian brasserie vibe, comfortable and spacious setting, attentive and friendly service, and a varied menu that delivers well executed classics such as moules frites, onion soup, ravioli, duck confit and steak frites, with desserts like pavlova and pudding chomeur also mentioned; the ambiance and wine list are frequently highlighted and the place is described as lively yet suitable for couples, groups or special occasions, though a few reviews note noise levels and occasional slower service when busy and a few dishes that lack salt balance or are priced high for the portion; many guests say they would return, recommend Brasserie Bernard, and consider it a top French bistro experience in Montreal
We had a lovely dinner for 4 on the street. The breeze helped us to beat the heat & humidity. The service was attentive, friendly & professional. I ordered the iceberg lettuce salad topped with shaved chicken, which I found had too much dressing but was otherwise tasty. My companions had the duck & the salmon, both of which met expectations. Be sure to order the fries! We'll be back to this neighborhood anchor.
I'm writing this review because to make an incredible martini is no easy feat . People think that such a simple drink with simple ingredients is easy when in fact, it's not. The Martini I ordered was perfection. The perfect mix of vermouth & gin with a twist of lemon was utter perfection. Bravo Brasserie Bernard !
We were very disappointed with the blandness of our meals. We ordered the clams with the Marinière sauce which was simply a very average white wine onion broth. I addition, their selection of cocktails was not exciting. Another letdown was that their tables were so small it was very awkward to eat our meal. Three friends had recommended the restaurant so I was surprised, but they had also not been there for a few years. The atmosphere was lovely however ! The terrace was beautiful & the waiters were super friendly. Overall, the menu is really not exciting at all. The previous evening I had been to Moretti's (downtown) & the meals were superb!!
