The Holder brothers welcome you to their beautiful Brasserie Bernard for a pleasant evening or a friendly lunch. This place has become a classic on Bernard Street in the beautiful Outremont district; the neighbourhood’s charm contributes greatly to the charm of the restaurant. Try their fine but unpretentious European cuisine, in a warm, elegant and vibrant atmosphere
Overall Brasserie Bernard earns praise for its warm Parisian brasserie vibe, comfortable and spacious setting, attentive and friendly service, and a varied menu that delivers well executed classics such as moules frites, onion soup, ravioli, duck confit and steak frites, with desserts like pavlova and pudding chomeur also mentioned; the ambiance and wine list are frequently highlighted and the place is described as lively yet suitable for couples, groups or special occasions, though a few reviews note noise levels and occasional slower service when busy and a few dishes that lack salt balance or are priced high for the portion; many guests say they would return, recommend Brasserie Bernard, and consider it a top French bistro experience in Montreal
We decided to check out Brasserie Bernard as our favourite Maître d', Maude, is now their manager & it certainly didn't disappoint. The oysters were wonderful fresh, the liver pâté was scrumptious & the French bistro classics, steak & frîtes & com au vin were perfect. The place is a bit pricey, like others in Outremont, but you get what you pay for.
A certified Montreal classic. French bistro done well, with occasional slight twists to the table d'hote that allow you to try something new without venturing too far into uncharted waters. Polished service, generous portions, & I hope it sticks around for years to come.
This restaurant is INCREDIBLE. The service is spot on, the food is out of this world, the ambiance is perfect. We rolled in after a six hour drive, probably looking a little shell shocked, & the staff took such good care of us. Escargot, tartare & mussels were to die for, excellent quality, ample servings & at a very decent price; I only regret that we didn't have room for dessert because those pastries looked divine! We will, definitely, definitely return the next time we are in Montreal!
