Reviews describe Bistro Amerigo as a cozy, neighborhood Italian bistro in Montreal with a simple, honest menu of well executed classics made with fresh ingredients. Diners repeatedly praise the gnocchi, meatballs, arancini, and a wide range of pastas and seafood, noting generous portions, comforting flavors, and a homey atmosphere that suits lunch or dinner. The wine list and service are often highlighted as warm and attentive, though several comments mention long waits for tables due to no reservations, crowded spaces, and occasional inconsistencies in service. Standout dishes such as vongole, octopus, and tiramisu or cannoli are frequently cited, while a few visits are described as pricey for the area. Overall, the restaurant is seen as a genuine Montreal gem that delivers authentic Italian food with personality and invites guests to return to try more of the menu.
The place gives a nice Italian buzz...
But then comes a very mediocre service. & when you eventually disturb them for it after 40 minutes waiting for food, manager will come out ant tell you it's all your fault because of they didn't read through your body language that you needed food.
Then he'llake a few quite inappropriate comments boarding familiarity & food will come - dry, because it was waiting for service way too long.
Then you'll leave it on the plate telling it's not really nice, they'll just take it away & bring you a bill...
Of course, not everyone's experience is the same but this was ours. Very disappointing.
So grateful to be living in a neighbourhood with the best Italian restaurant in the city. I go there once (sometimes twice) per week & each time I am shocked at how spectacular the food is. Such an amazing ambience & the owners/staff are wonderful people. Everything is always on point & hits the spot.

Authentic Italian, wines that are not found anywhere in the city. A truly Italian experience in Montreal with a very humble home feeling. Recommended 100% 5 stats +++
« If you were my child, I would drag you into my basement. »
Cozy, home-cooked vibe. Food is good & comforting, & the menu feels simple & straightforward. Service was just ok, nothing special. Overall, fair for the price & a solid neighborhood option, even if it's not particularly memorable or spectacular.
Best Calamari in town.
They don't take reservations though, so, if you go during high demand, expect to give your phone number & wait for quite a bit.
Very Italian atmosphere, nice bar selection, several daily specials.
This restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The service was attentive without feeling rushed, & the staff checked in often enough that we always had what we needed.
We tried a wide range of dishes. For appetizers, we had the Polpette di Amerigo, Insalata di Polpo, & Mozzarella di Bufala. For pastas, we shared the Pappardelle Bolognese & Cavatelli Barese, & we also ordered the Costata di Vitello. It's honestly hard to choose a favorite because everything was cooked well & had great flavor.
We were here about two months ago, & I'm only writing this review now because I've had meatballs at a few other places since then… & nothing even comes close. Amerigo's meatballs are hands-down the best I've had at any restaurant.
If you're thinking about stopping by, do it. This place is a must-visit.
This was one of the best dining experience I've had in a long time. The food was fantastic & the staff exceptionally friendly, attentive & efficient. The food came quickly & every dish was delicious. The only unfortunate yet completely understandable downside is the fact that you can't reserve in advance. We were a group of 5 so had to wait for a table to become available, but given the size of the restaurant & how busy it was, it was expected.

A hidden gem in NDG! As a longtime local, I'm thrilled to have finally discovered this fantastic Italian spot. The service was outstanding, especially for our group of three with visual impairments-the staff went above & beyond. Food was absolutely delicious! Highlights included the tender ribs, flavorful rapini, chicken Parmesan with a creamy zucchini risotto, & cannolis that hit the spot. Will definitely be back for the tiramisu next time 😋. Highly recommend this restaurant for a warm, welcoming meal!
I was just disappointed with the quality of the food .
We went there based on the recommendation of our sicilian friend, so we had high expectations.
But the food & the cocktail were honestly a disappointment... it was just below average .
The people there are friendly , but you need to deliver on the food level !
Had several pleasant meals here. The only blemish is the staff - wish they were more attentive. Overall a good bargain & a restaurant I'll visit again.
