Review Summary

Bawarchi is widely recognized in Montreal for offering some of the most authentic and flavorful Indian cuisine in the city, with many patrons specifically highlighting their extensive and delicious variety of biryanis. While most guests praise the generous portions, rich spices, and high quality of dishes like the lamb korma and various chicken curries, some note that the spice levels are quite intense and suggest verifying preferences when ordering. Although the dining experience is frequently described as cozy and welcoming, the restaurant is often very busy, which can occasionally lead to crowded conditions, longer wait times, and inconsistent service during peak hours. Despite these logistical challenges, the staff members are consistently commended for their friendliness, helpful recommendations, and professional hospitality, making it a highly recommended destination for those seeking genuine, traditional Indian flavors.

My husband & I came here for dinner tonight. We ordered the Samosa Chaat, Ghee Roast Kaju Shrimp Biryani, & two veg samosas. The spices complimented the flavours of the dishes well. The Samosa Chaat was quite different from ones I've had at other local restaurants, but their combination of spices added an authentic taste. The atmosphere was nice - we enjoyed the music! One thing we both really appreciated about this restaurant was the menu. They had separates pages for the meat dishes, seafood dishes, & vegetarian dishes, making it easy for people with different dietary restrictions to navigate. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because there are two Indian restaurants in the area where we eat often & have a strong preference for their Thalis & Chaats. But we would eat here again, & recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat near Saint-Catherine.

If you believe that the restaurants should have great decor as well as good food to be successful, you are wrong! This blah looking restaurant pulls in crowds from far & wide. Don't expect to take a date here or your father in law to impress. People come in starving & leave with a belly full of a-m-a-z-i-n-g fingerlicious food! With 50+ locations globally, you know the secret to their success. We ordered fish & lamb appetizers; amravati dum biryani (yes, they have two dozen dum biryanis), garlic naan, & chicken 65 curry. The entire menu is well priced & the portions are H-U-G-E. Enough leftovers for lunch the next day. My colleague also indicated that they have bought biryani at the Toronto restaurant; asked them to pack it (they pack it differently when you are flying with it) & brought it all the way to Vancouver. The day we went in, the air conditioner was busted, but I'm hoping it's fixed now & doesn't dampen the spirits of ecstasy-seeking foodies!

A good Indian restaurant in downtown Montreal. We tried a few other places but this one was far better than the other options. You have good vegetarian options as well here. Gongura dal that we tried was too good. I would visit this again if I get a chance to try the chicken & goat dum biryani.
