Review Summary

Barley - Bar à Céréales is widely regarded as a popular brunch destination in Montreal, praised for its unique Middle Eastern fusion menu and vibrant, aesthetically pleasing dishes like the halloumi plate, Turkish eggs, and matcha pancakes. While many patrons consistently enjoy the flavorful food and appreciate the ability to make reservations, others have noted inconsistent service, long wait times during busy periods, and a high noise level that can make conversation difficult. Experiences regarding the specialty coffee vary, as some find the options creative and fun while others perceive them as gimmicky or overpriced. Despite mixed feedback on staffing and occasional lapses in execution, many visitors find the overall experience delicious and worthwhile, though regular guests suggest that consistency in both service and food quality has fluctuated over time.

I went in a bit hesitant because of the 3.9 rating, I was in the area & did not have many options around. but it turns out that rating just isn't fair anymore. it's based on an old menu! The new menu is full of creative Arabic-fusion dishes with really balanced flavors.

We tried the matcha pancakes with white chocolate & labneh sauce & they were incredible (& I'm not even a matcha person!). The falafel salad with egg was excellent the falafel tasted authentic & the tahini dressing was great. The Turkish eggs with labneh had amazing flavor too, served with fresh-baked pita with za'atar & herbs that was next level.

My advice: don't judge this place by its old rating give it a chance, you won't regret it

Just pick a different place. Extremely slow, so far 45 mins for poached eggs & they are still not ready. If you sit in the interior be ready to have a headache, loud music & zero noise absorbing elements!

I am very disappointed with my experience. I had made a reservation for today, but when I arrived, the business was simply closed. Yet, according to Google, the listed hours indicated that you were open this Wednesday at 12:30 PM. It's ridiculous. Planning everything only to find the doors locked because you failed to update your own schedule is very disrespectful to your customers.

Made a reservation for me an all my friends on Open Table, only to arrive at the location & see that the restaurant was closed...Never got an email nor call, my reservation was somehow confirmed for a day they had planned to shut down & never cared to inform me. Very disappointed with the lack of communication, left a really negative first impression.

Beautiful space & very friendly, accommodating servers! The food was nothing short of phenomenal! Our party got the Avocado Toast, Turkish Eggs, Halloumi Plate, & Chicken Waffles - we recommend every single one :)

The drinks were a bit underwhelming, unfortunately. They have a variety of specialty coffees, but the flavours of the Miso Caramel Latte & Almond Croissant Latte didn't stand out. I'd say it's best to save the money on drinks.

It can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so make plans to arrive early or make a reservation!
