Bar St-Denis had a very cool ambience that is unique & unlike any other restaurant. Overall the food was great & the service was excellent. All our dishes tasted good but some worth commenting on:
The halibut was by far my favourite dish, cooked to perfection. The velouté was phenomenal & complemented the halibut brilliantly. Even the zucchini was soft & perfectly cooked. Overall a very excellent dish!
The duck was a close second. Although the meat was a bit tough, the skin of the duck had a nice crispiness to it even with all the sauce. The boletes & foie gras were also great to accompany the duck & both were delicious.
The aged pork was the dish that was a bit disappointing. There were some pieces on the edge of the cut that were just too salty. I found that some parts of the pork were also undercooked with some blood running from the meat. The vegetables that came with the dish also seemed very random, almost as if they were leftover vegetables that needed to be used up.
Otherwise, all appetizers were very delicious & the drinks were unique too!
Food was good, drinks were great, & the tasting menu is very well priced. Left completely full. Creative flavours with clever twists on familiar dishes, & the tuna tartare was the best I've ever had - not'best this year,' best full stop.
Decor is beautiful. Only catch: concrete floors mean the sound bounces everywhere, so expect to raise your decibels. By dessert my table was basically performing theatre for each other. Bring your outside voice & enjoy.
Any dish that has me exclaiming,'how are these carrots?!' has to be pretty impressive.
This place came as a recommendation from a tour we'd been on, as one of his top three in MTL. It was worth trusting him, & was a highlight of the trip. We shared three plates, & each one was more impressive than the last. Most surprising was how well my Filthy Animal martini paired with the first two. Pairing wine with food is one thing, but a paired cocktail is a special feat.
The waitstaff were lovely humans who truly loved the food they were serving. This was a great find.
Lively open kitchen restaurant serving culinary arts! The service & staff were excellent from the front door to the kitchen! A must try in Montreal! Make a reservation!
Excellent restaurant !!!
