Bar St-Denis had a very cool ambience that is unique & unlike any other restaurant. Overall the food was great & the service was excellent. All our dishes tasted good but some worth commenting on:
The halibut was by far my favourite dish, cooked to perfection. The velouté was phenomenal & complemented the halibut brilliantly. Even the zucchini was soft & perfectly cooked. Overall a very excellent dish!
The duck was a close second. Although the meat was a bit tough, the skin of the duck had a nice crispiness to it even with all the sauce. The boletes & foie gras were also great to accompany the duck & both were delicious.
The aged pork was the dish that was a bit disappointing. There were some pieces on the edge of the cut that were just too salty. I found that some parts of the pork were also undercooked with some blood running from the meat. The vegetables that came with the dish also seemed very random, almost as if they were leftover vegetables that needed to be used up.
Otherwise, all appetizers were very delicious & the drinks were unique too!

Le parcours débute avec brio : couteaux de mer sur glace pilée, relevés d'herbes fraîches & de grains croquants, suivis de palourdes fraîches à la lime, vives & bien assaisonnées. Les huîtres, nappées d'une sauce herbacée verte & parsemées d'ail croustillant, apportent ensuite une belle profondeur iodée. Un tartare de boeuf classique, orné de filets d'anchois & d'olives, complète cette portion marine avec caractère.
La focaccia gratinée, généreusement fromagée & relevée de flocons de piment, s'est révélée un incontournable pour saucer entre les services. Les endives, finement râpées de parmesan & parsemées d'éclats croustillants, offrent une belle pause fraîche & acidulée avant le plat principal.
Le plat de viande, tranché avec précision & accompagné de foie gras poêlé, de girolles & de canneberges fraîches nappées d'un jus riche & corsé, marque un sommet du repas. Il en faut peu pour convaincre qu'on est entre bonnes mains en cuisine.
En dessert, un gâteau renversé aux fruits, nappé de crème anglaise & couronné de chantilly, clôt le repas sur une note réconfortante & joliment présentée.
Portions justes, service attentif, une adresse qui mérite amplement sa réputation sur la rue Saint-Denis.

I had a disappointing experience at St Denis. I wanted to enter the bar to have something to eat, but the receptionist refused to let me in, saying the place was full. However, I felt that the situation could have been handled more professionally & politely. Unfortunately, I left feeling unwelcome.
I have really mixed feelings about Bar St Denis. I went once before & found the menu very veggie-forward, but my second visit was a little bit frustrating. Even though I obviously know it's not a restaurant known for vegetarian food, I expect a place in this price range to go through reservation notes before service.
Despite explicitly leaving a note that I am vegan, there wasn't a single vegetarian(!) main dish on the menu, & barely any veggie starters. The kitchen wasn't able to accommodate or modify anything either. As a vegan, I am always willing to be flexible when dining out, but there wasn't even a basic plant-friendly alternative. On top of that, we found the sommelier to be pretty unhelpful when we were trying to select drinks.
That being said, the atmosphere is super nice & the rest of the staff was very friendly. We sat at the bar & still managed to have a great time & enjoy good service, but the lack of inclusivity & attention to detail for the price is a major letdown.
Énorme coupe de coeur. L'ambiance est à la fois décontractée & haut de gamme. Tous les plats (5 services) étaient savoureux & le service (Tommy au bar) était impeccable. Recommande fortement!
Our experience at Bar St-Denis was amazing from start to finish; we were warmly greeted & taken care of all night by our outstanding server, who was knowledgeable, answered our questions, & paced the meal perfectly.
We had the scallops, eggplant & beef tartare to start. For the mains, we had the pressé de homard, BBQ trout, & the duck. Every dish was fresh, satisfying, & delicious. We liked that the dishes weren't overcomplicated & the sauces complimented the freshness of the meat/fish without overpowering it; the fresh ingredients are the stars of the show here & the chefs know it.
We had the Fraisier for dessert, a strawberry cake with meringue. It was OUTSTANDING. Easily one of the best desserts I've had in a restaurant.
Fantastic food & service! Food is fresh & tasty, the fish especially! An all time fav in Montreal for date night, girls night, any night really! Tommy was our AMAZING bartender who took the time to explain the menu to us & made the atmosphere A+++, Clara also gave a fantastic service. Our third time here & there will be many many more!!!
Je suis allé au Bar St-Denis pour la première fois & j'ai vraiment été impressionné. Les plats étaient à la fois créatifs & très savoureux. J'ai particulièrement aimé le concept de petites assiettes. La carte des vins est aussi assez variée. J'ai passé une très belle soirée & j'y retournerais sans hésiter. Dès que tu entres, tu ressens une ambiance chaleureuse. Le design de l'endroit est vraiment réussi, surtout le long bar qui attire l'attention. Le service était incroyablement professionnel.
Pour y être allé plusieurs fois, le Bar St Denis est toujours une valeur sûre, la qualité les plats est excellente, & il y a une très bonne ambiance. La dernière expérience a pourtant été gâchée par un service beaucoup trop stressé & pesant. On était interrompu toutes les 5 minutes pour nous servir de l'eau, du vin, enlever nos assiettes (sans qu'on ait terminé), demander si on voulait autre chose, demander si tout se passait bien... vraiment pénible. Le personnel était très stressant. & il n'y avait pas de deuxième service ce soir là. On est beaucoup poussé à la consommation. C'est dommage
