This restaurant is really intimate & cosy inside with a great date vibe. Because it is smaller, the noise level is not bad. You can easily have a conversation, but not so quiet where you feel everyone can hear your conversation. The service is friendly & personal & the food presentation is really pretty & elegant. The food offerings are a little different than a lot of sushi restaurants. They incorporate fresh fruit like pear slices, kiwi slices & blueberry in some of the rolls. Many of the rolls are not wrapped in nori, but in soy or rice paper. If you like sushi with lots of caviar, tempura flakes & mayonnaise, this is not for you. I found all the fish very fresh & mild. The sashimi is excellent & almost melts in your mouth. The more traditional rolls like dynamite are served with wasabi & ginger, but their more unique ones are not, but will be provided if you request it. The seafood in the rolls is generous & I had a hard time choosing a favourite. Barenaked was our table's least favourite. It did not contain any sushi rice & so for us, the texture wasn't our favourite, although the flavours were nice. I also don't love raw scallops, so for me that loses some points. The New Zealand was delicious with a slice of kiwi that made it feel so refreshing. I've heard their sushi bowls are excellent as well. Maybe next time. Finally, they have a decent dessert menu, which you don't always find in sushi restaurants. They have a matcha ice cream which is served in steel martini glass & 2 chocolate dipped pretzel type sticks. We had the chocolate mousse (delicious), pecan brownie served warm with ice cream (vanilla or coconut- we had coconut) & the matcha with a poor of green tea to finish the meal. All the desserts were fantastc & really pretty in their presentation.
I would definitely go back. Reservations are a must due to the limited seating. It's not inexpensive, but the freshness, quality & unusual, imaginative selection of rolls justified it IMO.
Nice setting & friendly service. The salad was fresh & tasty, but the sushi was very average. The salmon tartare had a strong fishy taste, which was a bit disappointing. There was not a lot of fish in some pieces. Overall, it was okay, but I don't think I'd go back.
If you're a sushi lover looking for fresh, high-quality ingredients, Avocado Sushi. This cozy local spot delivers an unforgettable sushi experience, particularly due to its dedication to freshness & premium ingredients.
The highlight of my visit was the avocado tartare. Creamy, smooth & paired with perfectly seasoned fish creates a delightful balance of flavours & textures. It's served with a delicate touch, blending rich & fresh flavours that are hard to beat.
The restaurant's atmosphere is welcoming, with a friendly staff that makes the experience feel even more personal. Supporting local is the way to go, our neighbourhood favourite.
I've been coming to this cozy little sushi spot for special occasions since it's close to home, & I used to really like it-until my visit last night.
First, the room was uncomfortably hot. I usually feel cold, but even for me, it was overwhelming hot.
Then came the wine service. I ordered a $16 glass, & while they brought the bottle for me to taste, the waiter never showed me the label. After I approved it, he took my glass & the bottle to the kitchen, saying he had to pour it using a measuring glass. When the wine came back, it tasted noticeably different-stronger & less smooth. When I asked why they don't pour in front of customers, the owner jumped in defensively, insisting that's just how they do it.
She later brought the bottle back & tried to pour me another glass, but I had already ordered something else. Instead of handling it professionally, she walked away looking annoyed without saying a word. While the rest of the staff was kind & tried to smooth things over, the owner's attitude made the situation unnecessarily stressful.
As for the food, I generally like their house maki, but I find snow crab makes the sushi feel too heavy with its creamy texture. Also, based on past visits, the fish isn't always the freshest.
At $90 per person, I expected better service & attention to detail. Thankfully, the staff worked hard to fix the issue, so I left with an "almost okay" experience.
First time at this restaurant - we absolutely loved everything about it!!! The fish is so fresh, the food was amazing, & the service was impeccable, everyone was so welcoming & kind. We can't wait to come back!!
