Excellent, very local & authentic restaurant with fantastic service, amazing wine & fish. Highly reccomended.
A great place to go for some nice seafood at a very reasonable price. We needed a place nearby & were very happy to find this place. The seafood was great, they had nice & fresh calamari, grilled octopus & a variety of fish. We had the shared tasting plate for two which I thought was a great deal & let you try a lot of seafood. They also have other dishes if seafood is not your thing. The one thing I would note is that the patio doors were all open during a quite smoky & hot day, but it was not really noticeable inside.
The food was authentic Portuguese, fresh fish & seafood with quality ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil. All dishes were delicious with nice presentation. It felt almost Like we were in Portugal. Loved the experience, the service was great & attentive. I recommend this restaurant for those who appreciate Portuguese Cuisine, will be back for sure . Thank you
The restaurant is nice & the prices are decent. I took the pica pau & the ameijoa a bulhao de pato, both are very good. Probably the best pica pau in Montreal. *** 5 years later update *** Still awsome, same high quality food & service. The fish was perfectly cooked, with a nice charcoal flavour. I highly recommend.
The food was excellent & the service was good. It seems like a small family run restaurant offering good quality portuguese food. We tried the octupus, fish, & steak with shripms plates, & honestly, they were all delicious. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth it.
Everything about this restaurant is top notch. We just waked on the street when we noticed a great atmosphere in the window. We decided to try it & everyone, four of us, thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. We had fish of the day, octopus, filet, muscles. All were fresh & great tasting. The service was also top notch. It appears that restaurant owners run it. The care & pride is evident & comes across through great service. Thank you.
Little Portugal has many Portuguese restaurants to choose from. Choose Aldea. Grilled meat & fish - lovely. Not so hungry? Tapas offerings created with care. It's a bit noisy but that only means the place is full of people who know good food when they eat it. The flan almost floated off my plate. Stroll along St. Laurent to aid in digestion. The maitre d' is convivial & helpful. Parking? It's Montréal!
We had a wonderful time at Aldea. LOUIS gave us a great service. We tried several items & we loved them all! Highly recommend fried Octopus, calamari, filet mignon & Shrimp skewer, fish of the day, & veal chops. For dessert we loved the passion fruits the most.
Excellent fish sea bass plate. Food is delicious & simple. Excellent attentive service. The toilets are clean & nicely decorated. Nice ambiance.
Everything was perfect . Ricardo was a super waiter with excellent service. Very fresh fish!
Absolutely wonderful meal. Service was great, everything we ordered was delicious. Fish of the day (fresh cod) was so very good. We will be back!
outstanding fish/seafood - reasonable prices - excellent service & pleasant decor. What more does one need for a enjoyable dinner outing?
Entree & main course were delicious, we focussed on fish & seafood & enjoyed quality ingredients expertly prepared. Desserts were disappointing but then very sweet foods are not my favourite. The service was excellent throughout.
My husband & I had the most marvelous dinner at Aldea this week! The caldo verde to start & my dorado fish was sublime. Husband had the small steak with those gorgeous little potatoes & carrots. All accompanied by a liter of Portuguese wine. Dessert of flan (my favorite!) was wonderful. As someone who longs to return to Portugal, I felt like I was in Lisbon or Porto with perfectly prepared food, attentive & friendly service. I found the restaurant online but two different people we met in Montreal while we were on vacation both RAVED about Aldea so I felt like we had made a good choice. & boy did we!
The fish was so fresh & everything else was delicious.
Nice restaurant but the night we were there (a Saturday night) it was very noisy.
Good food in general but the fish we ordered was very dry.
I live in the Mile End & work downtown, so I've walked past Aldea, probably hundreds of times since it opened, & I was always intrigued by the inviting elegance of the decor, & what seemed to be really beautiful plates as I saw them through their generous floor-to-ceiling windows as I passed. Finally, I decided to take advantage of a rare evening off from the restaurant I manage to try it, & I am beyond glad that I did.
Honestly, one of the best dining experiences I've had in Montreal. This place is a gem.
The key to the whole thing, & the thread that pervaded our entire experience, is attention to detail. & it begins as soon as you walk in the building. The room is simply & tastefully decorated, with a cozy, but modern ambience. The furnishing is stylish without sacrificing comfort. Before you order a single thing, you're already glad you came. Even the washrooms were spotless on a level I've seldom seen.
My boyfriend doesn't drink, so I just ordered a half litre of the house red for my self & was pleasantly surprised by the quality. It robust & fruit forward, with a nice little tannic zip - not the flabby offering you get from most places as "vin maison". He & I both opted for the Table d'Hote, though we were certainly tempted by the ample selection of tasty-sounding tapas. Ranging from $30-42 for three courses, the price point is reasonable on its face, however once you see what you get it's incredible.
We were presented with a basket of fresh-to-the day Portuguese crusty rolls & sliced cornbread, & a lovely unexpected amuse bouche of meatball (done in a still reminiscent of brandade) with a spicy mayo. We ordered a queso fresco & tomato salad on top of the fixed menu offering, & it came out simple, fresh, & tasty - exactly what you'd hope for from a dish of this kind.
Soon after we finished that our Table d'Hote appetizers arrived - Lisbon Shrimp for me, & the chef's salad for my co-diner. The salad was dressed in a light vinagrette, garnished with strawberries & some cressons (which was a nice touch), & the shrimp . . . my goodness; large, flavourful without being fishy, & steeped in a stunning rose-type sauce (I detected red pepper & paprika notes, but I could be wrong. It was so delicious I wiped every spare drop out of the bowl.
By this point, everything had been so delightful, we couldn't wait for the mains, & they didn't disappoint. My veal chop was huge (at least 10-12oz) & cooked to a perfect medium, with traditional Portuguese style roast potatoes, & sauteed asparagus & broccolini. It was lightly seasoned, with the perfect amount of char. If I did it over again, I might try to get a side of the sauce from the shrimp appetizer, but that's more a testament to how amazing that was, rather than an indication the chop was in any way lacking flavour. My partner had the Filet Mignon & Jumbo Shrimp skewer, which also came cooked to perfection. They shrimp had taken just enough grill fire to benefit from the flavour, but still maintained a nice soft texture inside, & the steak pieces were tender & juicy. His dish came with the same vegetable mix, but with chip cut potatoes, in place of the larger roasted potatoes I received. He loved them, & finished each & every one, despite rapidly becoming full from the generous portions.
The presentation of the plates was fantastic, & every time a new plate arrived at one of the adjacent tables we were following it with our eyes, planning what to order on our next visit. The Giant Shrimp plate, Seared Cod, & Octopus we saw all looked mouth watering, & we were wishing we'd brought a few more people so we could sample them all.
We finished off with a nice homemade chocolate mousse (which was elevated by stirring a couple spoonfuls of my espresso into it), & a classic creme caramel. We had to stop ourselves from licking the plate clean.
From a service standpoint, we couldn't really have asked for me. We were assisted by two veteran waiters, who were polished, without being pretentious, & friendly without being intrusive. There is an open kitchen, so we also had the opportunity to thank the cooks who prepared such a formidable meal.
Aldea offers what are very much traditional style Portuguese dishes. They are not seeking to re-invent the wheel, but have clearly focused on freshness, quality, & careful preparation to elevate the fare over establishements offering similar cuisine (which are ample in the quartier). For my purposes, I know I will be back, & would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone, whether for a special occasion, important date, or just a really well-executed meal in a gorgeous, intimate dining room.
Again, in a city with such a diversity of offerings, this was one of the most satisfying overall experiences I've had, & it will be one of a small handful of go-to restaurants for me moving forward.
Food continuously improved since I have been going there over the past year & portions are generous. The fish of the day was awesome!
Recently had lunch with business associates, atmosphere & ambiance was fantastic not at all snooty or pretentious. Food was fantastic, we shared a couples of mixed Petiscos I had Cod fish cakes which I have to say are better than those in Portugal. Main dish was fish of the day which was cooked on grill to perfection. Wine selection by our waiter Luis was perfect match.
Overall a great experience & a must do again soon
Highly recommended if you want to have all your senses engaged in great food & wine at a reasonable price.
