About us

Restaurant Akwaba, which means Welcome, is located in the Rosemont-Petite-Patrie district of Montreal.

Akwaba proposes a culinary journey combining African and Greek treats with a modern and original touch within a pleasant, warm and welcoming atmosphere.

At Akwaba, we offer traditional African dishes such as Kédjénou (stewed chicken), variants of choukouya (beef, lamb, goat or chicken breast braised with a mix of African and Greek spices (kankankan) onions and peppers), Yassa (chicken or lamb cooked in an onion-lemon-mustard sauce), Mafé, Tiep bou dienn or yap, braised marinated fish, the unforgettable Alloko (fried plantains), attiéké (cassava couscous) and much more ..., traditional Greek dishes such as Moussaka, etc. and dishes resulting from the fusion of the two such as African Souvlaki etc ...

Indeed, the chef and owner is very knowledgeable in African and Greek cuisine. He was previously a restaurant owner and chef in Greece. He has worked closely with many great African and Greek chefs and has an excellent command of both cuisines.

The Akwaba concept aims, on the one hand, to increase awareness by promoting the true flavors of authentic African cuisine in all its dimensions and on the other hand, to introduce ingredients of African cuisine in a few Greek recipes: thus, the potato is replaced by the yam (sweet potato) in the Greek Moussaka, tuna is substituted by salmon in the Bassamoise Salad etc. The addition of cress to the ingredients of this salad brings out a special taste that is very appreciated (it is the Queen of our salads). Furthermore, all our salads are seasoned with home-made vinaigrettes made with extra virgin olive oil from Kalamata (Greece).

Dessert includes, among other things, Pineapple Chutney Crêpes cake with Pinacolada sauce, the comforting Akwaba pie served with lime sorbet, dêghê, Baklava (Greek) etc.

J'ai adoré mon expérience à Akwaba ! Mes amies & moi goûtions au fufu sauce graine & au attiéké pour la première fois. C'était un pur délice. Mon plat préféré a été le poulet braisé Akwaba avec riz blanc en accompagnement. Je recommande vivement !

Mon conjoint & moi sommes allés souper dans ce magnifique restaurant, la nourriture est excellente. La serveuse nous a conseillé l'assiette mixte pour deux qui comprend 2 soupes,le célèbre poulet Akwaba,l'agneau braisé(BBQ) à l'africaine,4 crevettes & un mix d'accompagnement. tous étaient succulents & le service très attentionné. C'était notre première fois de goûter à la nourriture africaine & nous avons été émerveillés.
Je recommande fortement ce sympathique restaurant

Très belle découverte. J'y suis allé avec ma blonde pour souper, nous avons chacun choisi la Table d`hôte week-end, trois services , 1er service: une salade avec couscous de manioc saumon & fines herbes & acra de morue 2iem services: Assiette de poulet braise qui était très bon & assiette de yassa végétarienne pour ma blonde, les plats ont été Succulents, savoureux. 3 iem services: dessert du chef ( 4 chois de dessert). le service a été rapide ça pris 35 min pour le service,Contrairement à plusieurs commentaires dont j'ai pris connaissance. En plus c est un apportez votre vin.
L'essayer c'est l'adopter!

Le service est impeccable & chaleureux & la nourriture délicieuse. Le poulet braisé fond dans la bouche & les bananes plantains sont parfaites! Je me ferai un plaisir de retourner régulièrement!

J'y suis allée la en famille pour la fête des mères,excellent restaurant africain apportez votre vin Nous avons mangé des calmars frit très tendre & acra de morue en entrée .assiette de yassa & sauce d arachide au poulet ce sont des saveurs d Afrique,& poulet braise a l africaine était délicieu. Nous avons adoré tout ca. c est à découvrir. On y retourne sans hésitations!

I went this week & & I really only have great things to say about it. The flavours were really explosive & they brought a fantastic hot sauce on the side. We had the Acras de Morue, the braised half chicken plate with manioc couscous( the best part of the dish) & a fried whole dorade fish served with salad & the most mouth watering plantains as I have never had them before, plump & juicy & very moist. I would say this is the best restaurant I have dined at in a really long time. It's bring your own wine as well & the prices arent cheap but are reasonable.

J'adore la cuisine Grecque & je suis une fan incontestée des différents mets des divers pays Africains. Le service était plus rapide qu'à ce à quoi je m'attendais mais cette petite attente en valait tellement la peine!!! Nous avons commencé par les excellents accras de morue. J'ai pris le Veau Yassa...juste délicieux & mon copain, les Loukanikos. Mes amis ont pris le poulet à l'arachide & le demi poulet braisé...surement le meilleur plat des quatre mais ils étaient tous bons. Parfait comme accommpagnement, les plantains! & que dire des chanteurs!!! Ils nous ont invité à les assister à une de leur session musicale...trop top!!! C'était ma première fois & c'est certain que je vais y retourner avec d'autres amis pour partager avec eux cette merveille!!!
