All those years of Rock Band in your parents' basement - gripping a plastic guitar, absolutely convinced you were the next Justin Bieber - were not wasted. They were training. & 3 Minots on Saint-Laurent is where that training finally gets deployed in live combat. This is the bar where you go to obliterate your stage fright once & for all, because the energy in this room is so aggressively supportive that you could sing'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the wrong key, in the wrong language, & a table of strangers would still raise their glasses like you just headlined the Bell Centre. The owner, Ray - bartender, karaoke DJ, emcee, & off-tempo tambourine virtuoso - runs this room with the chaotic precision of an air traffic controller during a snowstorm. Your name gets called, you better sprint to that mic, because the song starts with or without you, & that is not a U2 reference, that is a warning.
It's free to sing, which is genuinely incredible & possibly the last free thing left in Montreal. The drinks, however, are priced as if they're personally subsidizing that freedom - a pitcher costs roughly the same as the Uber you took to get here.
The drinks are stadium price, 3 shots of Jameson was 25$ before tip. A few minutes later I asked for a cup of water & he tried to charge me for a bottle. When I asked if I could just get a cup of tap water instead the bartender who I think was also the owner dismissively said'ask him' & pointed at his co worker who was clearly busy. We left right after that & spent our money somewhere that didn't try to rob us blind
The owner is truly a nasty person to deal with, he refused to accept a request until I personally had bought a drink, even though our table had already bought several drinks & only done one song, but apparently that wasn't good enough for him. He was incredibly rude to all of us & I watched him sell a girl a drink, take her request, & then crumple the paper & toss it when she wasn't looking. He seems to genuinely hate people & fun & really shouldn't be running a karaoke bar. Drinks were very expensive & the only thing that gave another star for atmosphere was the fact that the other patrons were very fun to sing with. Overall avoid this bar, it is run by a total grouch.
Realistically this place is a 3 star but after 1am & many drinks it's a 5. If you're using Google Maps to find your next stop & you're reading this, this isn't the place 😂
Me & my mother entered to watch the karaoke.
After a little while the owner asked us to leave because we hadn't ordered any drink.
I felt so bad in front of my mother as she is a tourist here. We both dont consume alcohole, & by late evening we stop eating/drinking.
The place was quite empty when we were there. I was thinking to take friends & relatives & encourage them to come here. But no, I never go there again because of having a mean & rude owner.
So I've been a patron of this bar for years. I always respected the way the bartender curates the playlist. & I have respected time & time again when he rejects my songs & I listen to taylor swift that ends up playing. Tonight finally he chose my song & I went on stage for'its raining men' we sang the first few words when it abruptly stopped & silence fell on the bar. It was extremely awkward. He forced us off stage. & ushered others on stage to sing more taylor swift. I came off stage & asked him directly why he stopped my song & he actively avoided me. This bar sucks. I can't believe I paid for drinks here.
WORST EXPERIENCE & SERVICE. I asked for a water & the owner (playing the tambourine) refused unless I bought a drink. So I asked for the cheapest drink on the menu, he charged me $14 for a zero percent corona! He was beyond rude. ZERO STARS.
Horrendous experience, brought my gf here & was ashamed of myselfy, WAITER HAS NO RESPECTD FOR CLIENTS WHATSOEVER. Waiter asks 36$/pitcher, 8$/shot & 13$/330 ml beer if you don't buy overpriced drink, you can't sing. Personally never ever going back here again & hope no new folks go there, wouldn't want to help out this waiter ever again.
I've lived in Montreal for six years, & my advice is: don't go here. I used to come here often, but the place has really gone downhill. The owner is rude & doesn't seem to care about customers. Someone even stole our drinks while we were on stage, & he couldn't have cared less. On top of that, the prices have gone up so much it's honestly ridiculous. If you're looking for an affordable, welcoming bar, this isn't the place
